Mood Lighting

Provides a better and more

ambient working condition
for musicians and producers
to work for a longer period of
time.

Case Study 4
Compact living spaces in NYC

small 150 sq ft apartment but flaw is that it

does not let in enough natural light coupled
with the dark tones of furniture adds to the
apartment seeming crammed and smaller
than it actually is.
Program
OVERVIEW
I am a musician, Architecture undergrad and a sneaker design-
er. Therefore my program consists of a recording studio space
that is seperate from the living area as i have guests whom I
would like to be in the main living area as less as possible. I am
Extroverted by nature and love the outdoors so i wanted a
space which can incorporate the indoor and outdoor space as
one but also making it personal as a living space as i normally
have 1-2 people occasionally staying over. Lastly, as a sneaker
enthusiast I would like someplace to display my shoes.

Structure
The windows should face the north and south west
as the servant quarters are located on the rooftop to my
home are towards the east and I would like to be isolated
from that area.

Large opening windows into a closed courtyard with

views of the sunset and the valley view

Bathroom with a large window to let in as much nat-

ural light in as possible

Incorporating indoor and outdoor space as one

Folding bed into wall to use space more effectively

Open area needs to be towards the west side due to

the servant quarter being towards the north-east

More emphasis on an outdoor living space rather

The pod provides a separate pri-
vate space within the apartment

ANALYSIS
PLAN
this was considered as the best working iteration as it not
only incorporated iundoor and outdoor living spaces but
also seperated itslef from the servant quarters adjacent.
SCIOGRAPHY
it was observed that throughout most of the day the terrace area
linked to the studio apartment is provided with shade from the
structure of the apartment.
