• There is no need to fix any cap on the promoters’ holding in the initial 5 years.

1.57 GAIL gets approval to buy IL&FS group's stakes in ONGC Tripura Power Company
• National Company Law Tribunal (NCLT) has granted its approval to Gas Authority of India Ltd. (GAIL)
to acquire 26% stakes of the IL&FS group in the Oil and Natural Gas Corporation (ONGC) Tripura
Power Company (OTPC).
• OTPC is a special purpose vehicle between ONGC, IL&FS Group and Government of Tripura for setting
up of a 726.6 MW Combined Cycle Gas Turbine (CCGT) thermal Power Plant at Palatana, Tripura.

• The Competition Commission of India (CCI) has approved acquisition of 100% shareholding of Exide
Life Insurance Ltd. by HDFC Life Insurance.
1.59 LIC gets RBI approval to hike stake in Kotak Mahindra Bank to 9.9%
• Recently, Life Insurance Corporation (LIC) of India has received approval from the Reserve Bank of
India (RBI) to raise its stake in Kotak Mahindra Bank (KMB) to up to 9.99% of the paid-up equity share
capital of Bank.
• LIC held 4.96% stake in the private lender as on 30 September 2021.

1.64 Paytm Payments Bank launches prepaid card linked with Paytm wallet
• Recently, the Paytm Payments Bank Limited (PPBL) has launched a physical prepaid card “Paytm
Transit card” that is directly linked to a user’s Paytm wallet.
• It will enable millions of Indians with the power of one single card that takes care of all transportation
as well as banking needs.
• Users can just top up the wallet to use the card and do not need to create a separate account.

• Bajaj Finserv, one of the largest financial conglomerates in India, has kicked off the second phase of
'Savdhaan Rahein. Safe Rahein'.
• It is a public awareness campaign focusing on Life Insurance Frauds to educate its consumers and
public at large on how to stay safe from such frauds.
o The campaign has a catchy jingle 'Na Ji Na Ji' with an endearing character named 'Gupta Ji' who
goes around spreading these awareness messages in his own unique style.
1.80 Finance Ministry issues fresh set of norms to guide state-owned banks in adopting a uniform
staff accountability framework for Non-Performing assets (NPAs)
• The Finance Ministry has issued a fresh set of norms to guide state-owned banks in adopting a
uniform staff accountability framework for non-performing assets (NPAs) up to Rs 50 crore.
• Aim: To protect employees and remove their fears of being investigated for genuine business
decisions gone wrong which is out of the control of the promoter, and at the same time make them
accountable for any wrongdoing or any inaction on their part.
• The guidelines will be implemented with effect from April 1, 2022, for accounts that turn NPAs
beginning the next financial year.
• The ‘Staff Accountability Framework for NPA Accounts up to Rs 50 crore (Other than Fraud Cases)’
by the Department of Financial Services (DFS) under the finance ministry, advises public-sector banks
to revise their staff accountability policies and frame procedures with approval of their respective
boards.
• Banks will have to complete staff accountability exercise within six months from the date of
classification of the account as NPA.
• Rules laid down for Examining Staff Accountability:
o UP TO RS 10 lakh: Staff accountability need not be examined in NPA accounts with outstanding
up to Rs 10 lakh. The government has argued that most loans up to Rs 10 lakh are “template-
based” and do not constitute a major percentage of the NPA portfolio by amount.
o Rs 10 LAKH–RS 1 CRORE: For examining staff accountability, banks may decide on a threshold
of Rs 10 lakh or Rs 20 lakh, depending on their business size.
o Rs 1 CRORE–50 CRORE: Accounts in this range are mostly credit facilities sanctioned to
business units warranting examination by a specialised unit within the banks.
✓ A preliminary examination by a committee constituted at one level higher than the
sanction level-an account sanctioned at the regional office taken up at the zonal level,
those at the zonal level by circle office or head office, and so on.
1.82 Reserve Bank of India (RBI) tells banks to specify exact repayment due dates in loan contracts
• Recently, RBI issued a set of clarifications on its existing asset classification guidelines and said banks
must specify the exact due dates for repayment in loan agreements.
• The current norms state that a loan turns overdue if is not repaid on the due date fixed by the bank.
• RBI stated related to due dates:
o The exact due dates for repayment of a loan, frequency of repayment, breakup between
principal and interest, examples of special mention account (SMA) and non-performing asset
(NPA) classification dates and shall be clearly specified in the loan agreement and
✓ the borrower shall be apprised of the same at the time of loan sanction and at the time
of subsequent changes, if any, to the sanction terms or loan agreement till full
repayment of the loan.
o RBI directed banks to specify the exact date of commencement of repayment for loans that
have a moratorium facility.
✓ These instructions shall be complied with at the earliest, but not later than 31
December 2021, in respect of fresh loans. For existing loans banks have to comply with
the guidelines when such loans become due for renewal or review.

• Recently, at the 2021 United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP26), the “NGFS Glasgow
Declaration: Committed to Action” was adopted by the Network for Greening the Financial System
(NGFS).
• Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has supported the NGFS declaration by publishing the Statement of
Commitment to Support Greening India’s Financial System.
1.92 India, ADB sign USD 61 million pact to boost urban services in Agartala
• Recently, the Government of India and the Asian Development Bank (ADB) have signed a USD 61
million loan agreement for the Agartala City Urban Development Project.
• Under the project, Agartala’s central and north zones will be developed as models of area-based
development, in line with the Smart Cities Mission.
• Under the project, open spaces would be renovated and water recreation and lakeside walkways
would be created at the Maharaja Bir Bikram College lake and the Ujjayanta Palace at Tripura.
1.93 YouWeCan, SBI Foundation and Goa Government launches free breast cancer initiative in Goa
• Recently, YouWeCan Foundation, in partnership with the SBI Foundation and the Government of
Goa has launched the Swasth Mahila, Swasth Goa initiative at the Goa Medical College.
• Under the initiative, free breast cancer screening will be done for 1 lakh women across 35 Health
Centres in Goa over a period of two years using iBreast (iBE) devices.
• The initiative is funded by the Indian Institute of Banking and Finance and SBI Foundation

1.95 SEBI notifies norms to include silver in mutual fund schemes
• Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI) has notified norms that pave the way for silver or silver-
related instruments to be included in the investment schemes of the asset management companies.
• SEBI defined silver Exchange Traded Fund (ETF) schemes as those mutual fund schemes which invest
primarily in silver or silver-related instruments, which have silver as the underlying product. Assets
of the scheme should be kept with a registered custodian.

• World’s first and India’s largest landfill gas-to-compressed biogas plant has been launched in
Hyderabad, Telangana.
• Aim: To focus on the conversation of landfill gas into compressed biogas as an automotive fuel.

• The Kempegowda International Airport in Bengaluru, Karnataka, has become the first airport in

• Recently, the Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister has announced to name Patalpani railway station near

• Also, Bhopal's Habibganj railway station was recently named after Rani Kamalapati, a tribal queen.

1.154 Telecom Department allots license and spectrum for 5G testing in Gujarat
• Department of Telecommunications (DoT) has allotted license and spectrum for 5G testing in Gujarat.
These licenses and spectrums have been allotted to:
o Vodafone Idea in Gandhinagar (for urban), Mansa (for semi urban) and Unava, (rural) with
Nokia as equipment supplier.
o Reliance Jio in Jamnagar (semi urban/rural) with Samsung as equipment supplier.
1.155 Customs Department launches multiple digital initiatives at ICD Tughlakabad, Delhi
• The Customs department has launched multiple digital initiatives at the Inland Container Depot
(ICD), Tughlakabad (Delhi).
o An online facility for scheduling examination of import cargo.
o A baggage scanner for non-intrusive examination of unaccompanied baggage.
o An electronic tracking of containerised cargo through use of smart locks and an application
built on blockchain technology has been launched enabling customs to track movement of
non-duty paid goods through GPS.

• Indian Railways has introduced India’s first pod hotel at the Mumbai Central Railway Station.
• The 'pod' or a 'capsule hotel’, was first developed in Japan which features a large number of small,
bed-sized rooms known as capsules.
1.168 World's most sophisticated MRI facility launched at National Brain Research Centre
• World's most sophisticated Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) facility has been inaugurated at the
National Brain Research Centre (NBRC), Manesar (Haryana).
• A new MRI Scanner “Prisma” based on the 3 Tesla platform manufactured by Siemens (Germany)
has been set up in the facility.
1.189 Power Ministry revises terms of reference of NCT to fast-track ISTS process
• Ministry of Power has revised the terms of reference of National Committee on Transmission (NCT)
to fast-track Inter State Transmission System (ISTS) planning and approval process.
• Presently, all ISTS systems are approved by Ministry of Power based on recommendation of NCT.
• Now, proposal of expansion of ISTS upto Rs 100 crore will be approved by Central Transmission Utility
(CTU) and the proposal costing between Rs 100 crore and Rs 500 crore will be approved by NCT.
• Ministry of Power will approve proposal costing more than Rs 500 crore.

1.216 NEET: SC asks Centre on how Rs 8 lakh criteria was fixed for EWS quota
• Recently, a three membered Supreme Court Bench led by Justice D.Y. Chandrachud has questioned
the Central Government to explain how it has fixed an annual income of Rs 8 lakh as the limit for
eligibility for reservation under the Economically Weaker Sections (EWS) category in the National
Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET)-All India quota.
• The bench also questioned the central government whether the Sinho commission report was

• Recently, the Department of Telecommunications (DoT), has fixed December 2022 as the deadline
for internet service providers (ISPs) to customise their network, change modem and routers at
customer premise for the services as per the Internet Protocol version 6 (IPv6).
• DoT has set June 30, 2022, as the last date for government organizations for complete transition to
IPv6.
• All new retail wireline customer connections provided by ISPs after December 31, 2022, shall be
capable of carrying IPv6 traffic either on dual stack on native IPv6.
1.230 TRAI extends broadcast regulations implementations deadline to 1st April, 2021
• Recently, the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) has extended the deadline for the
implementation of the new broadcast sector tariff regulations commonly known as NTO 2.0 from
December 1st, 2021 to April 1st, 2022.

• NTO 2.0 is an attempt by the telecom regulator to protect consumers from the "deceptive practices"

• Recently, Union Education Minister has launched Bhasha Sangam Initiative for schools, Bhasha
Sangam Mobile App and Ek Bharat Shreshtha Bharat Quiz App.
• Bhasha Sangam aims to teach basic sentences of everyday usage in 22 Indian languages and targets
that at least 75 lakh people acquire this skill during the Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav period.
• Bhasha Sangam Mobile App has been developed in collaboration with myGov, by a start-up called
Multibhashi.
o 100 sentences in 22 scheduled languages are presented in audio and video form with Indian
Sign Language so that children in school will be able to read in the Indian language, in
Devanagari script, in roman script and translations into Hindi and English.
• Ek Bharat Shreshtha Bharat (EBSB) Quiz App has over 10,000 questions on states of India developed
by Nazara Technologies through the Innovation Cell of this Ministry.

o These include Nagarkata Land Customs Station; Agartala Land Customs Station; Pandu port
(Guwahati Steamerghat), and Jogighopa port subject to cross border control at Dhubri.
o The additional entry/exit points also include Asian Highway 48 connecting Torsha Tea Garden
in India and Ahllay in Bhutan as an additional route corresponding to the Land Customs Station
at Jaigaon; Kamardwisa, and Birpara (India).

• The rover built by ispace, will have an integrated robotic arm created by Stardust Technologies

• WII-Dehradun has launched India’s first Fishing cat Collaring Project in the Coringa Wildlife
Sanctuary (CWS) in Andhra Pradesh.
• The three year project is being undertaken by a team of scientists led by Dr. Bilal Habib of WII.
• The aim of the project is to undertake a census and capture 10 Fishing Cats for collaring to study the
species behavior, habitat and threats.

• UNESCO World Heritage forests in 257 sites absorbed approximately 190 million tonnes of carbon
dioxide (CO2) from the atmosphere each year.
• The total carbon stored till now by these forests is approximately 13 billion tonnes of carbon.
• UNESCO has listed 50 sites across the globe for their unique marine values. These represent just 1%
of the global ocean area. But they comprise at least 15% of global blue carbon assets.
• These 50 sites have carbon stores estimated at 1.4 Gigatonne Carbon (Gt C).
• The Sundarbans National Park has stores of 60 million tonnes of carbon (Mt C).

1.419COP26: UK launches India Green Guarantee, commits funds for EVs in India
• Recently, the United Kingdom (UK) has announced to provide an India Green Guarantee to the
World Bank at the COP26 Summit at Glasgow, UK.
o It will unlock an additional 750 million pounds for green projects across India.
o The funding is a part of the UK’s new Clean Green Initiative.

• Launched by the UK Government at the COP26 Summit.
• It is a part of the UK’s contribution to the G7 Build Back Better World initiative announced at the G7
summit at Carbis Bay, UK in June 2021.
• To support the initiative the UK Government will provide over 3 billion pounds in climate financing
for green growth in developing countries over the next five years, including 200 million pounds for

• Apart from India Green Guarantee, UK will also offer a new ‘Room to Run’ guarantee to the African
Development Bank (AfDB) to unlock up to 1.45 billion pounds worth of new financing for projects

1.421 Asian Development Bank gets USD 665 million for climate projects
• Recently, four partners have collectively pledged USD 665 million at the COP26 in Glasgow towards
Asian Development Bank (ADB) to support climate-related projects in Southeast Asia.
• The USD 665 million funding includes
o USD 151 million from the Government of the United Kingdom,
o USD 155 million from Italian state lender Cassa Depositi e Prestiti (CDP),
o USD 58 million from the European Union,
o USD 300 million from the Green Climate Fund (GCF).
• The funding will form a part of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) Green Recovery
Platform of the ADB.
• The new funding will add to the USD 1.4 billion in co-financing commitments already pledged to the
ACGF since 2019, bringing total pledges to the facility to USD 2 billion.
1.424 Central Government exempted exploratory oil drilling from prior CRZ nod
• Recently, the environment ministry has proposed to exempt exploratory drilling operations for oil
& natural gas and development of associated facilities in inter-tidal areas from
“prior Coastal Regulation Zone (CRZ) clearance”.
o The proposal has been issued as draft notification in a gazette on November 1, 2021.
1.425 Facilitative Sharing of Views (FSV) of India’s Third Biennial Update Report (BUR) at COP26
• During the 11th Facilitative Sharing of Views (FSV) at the Conference of Parties 26 (COP26), India
made the following presentations on its third Biennial Update Report (BUR):
o India represents 17% of the global population, while its historical cumulative emissions are
only 4% and current annual Green House Gases emissions are only about 5%.
o India achieved 24% reduction in emission intensity of its Gross domestic product over the

• Vihaan and Nav Agarwal from Delhi have won the 17th KidsRights International Children’s Peace
Prize for tackling pollution in Delhi by recycling household waste.
• They have developed a “One Step Greener” initiative for segregating waste and organising waste
pickups for garbage from thousands of homes, schools and offices.
About the award
• The award is given annually by the International children’s rights organization KidsRights based in
Amsterdam (Netherlands) to a child who has made a significant contributions in advocating children’s
rights and improving the situation of vulnerable children such as orphans etc.
1.441 IIT Bombay team wins grant from Elon Musk Foundation
• A team of the Indian Institute of Technology Bombay (IIT-Bombay) named 'SASIITB' has won a grant
worth USD 250,000 from the XPRIZE Foundation, a part of the Elon Musk Foundation.
• The grant has been conferred at the Sustainable Innovation Forum at COP26 summit, Glasgow
(Scotland).
• The team consisting of students Anwesha Banerjee, Srinath Iyer, Shubham Kumar, and Srishti
Bhamare, have won for making a tri-modular technology for large scale removal of carbon dioxide
and turning it into salts.
