Beyond the Basic Productivity Tools (BPT) Lesson Idea
Lesson Title Create a quiz
Content Area Algebra 1 Content Standards A.PAR.6.3 Create and solve quadratic equations in one variable and explain the solution in the framework of applicable phenomena. Technology Standards 1.3.c Students curate information from digital resources using a variety of tools and methods to create collections of artifacts that demonstrate meaningful connections or conclusions.
1.7.b Students use collaborative technologies to work with others, including
peers, experts, or community members, to examine issues and problems from multiple viewpoints. Multiple Means of Expression: Students will be able to create different kinds
of questions, using graphs, functions, or giving the answer and have the students create a question.
Multiple Means of Engagement: Students will be able to create questions with
the level of difficulty they are comfortable with. Lesson Idea In order to give the students time to consider what they would include in their work, this project will be introduced at the start of class. What is required of the students for the assignment will be explained and demonstrated by the teacher. The assignment should be finished in around 45 minutes, plus an additional 15 minutes for the quizzes to be taken. Teachers will move around the room to check on student's progress and help as needed. In order to generate an answer key, students will then take their time creating problems that they anticipate appearing on the test.
Student learning is assessed based on participation as it is assessed by
them. Teachers use this information to design a test based on feedback from student responses. This end product helps inform and differentiate learning so that the teacher understands where students struggle and where they are strong, we could focus on the materials they are struggling with. Students' ability to create their own problems shows that they are learning at a higher level. I asked for their feedback, and it helped me a lot in figuring out how to design the test. I can give students feedback on their work during each quiz. I applaud when I see them create thoughtful questions or answers. Design Reflection I think this activity can impact student learning by requiring them to be creative and think critically about what they expect to be on the test. After creating some questions to put on their quiz, they have to go further and answer their own questions. I could give students more time to complete the task or increase the number of questions required for the quiz. Kahoot is a great technology to use with other tech tools like Desmos or an interactive whiteboard.
