The Portrait

Sen. Alfredo was shedding tears. All the people in the village were waiting eagerly
inside and around his humble house. They almost felt like crying. The old man had to
do what he hadn't wanted to do for a long time before. He had to sell the most precious
masterpiece that he had been gifted by his life friend, Pablo Ruiz Picasso, which was a
portrait hung over his favorite armchair in the living room. A picture of Picasso and the
old man together was hung near that portrait. The portrait had been a mystery for many
years. All the people in the village and some other people who had come from other
places wanted to solve that mystery. Sen. Alfredo, the most intimate friend of Picasso,
as he alleged, used to keep that portrait turned to the wall. No one had been able to see
it before. Rumors said that one day, he was taken to hospital and admitted to the ICU
because one of his relatives tried to touch that priceless picture. Hearsays confirmed
that he refused to sell that extraordinary portrait for millions of dollars. Now, his
valuable masterpiece would be sold by auction. Distinguished merchants, high class
wealthy people and other important figures attended that once-in-a-lifetime event. A
stranger started the auction saying "20,000 dollars, that's all what I have." "25,000." An
ordinary merchant said. "30,000." An old country woman shouted. All those ordinary
people were obliged to keep silent when the merchants of diamond and jewels took
part in the auction. The process lasted until midnight when a high class woman offered
a case that contained 500,000 dollars. No one could offer more than that. The woman
was overjoyed and felt proud of herself winning that unique portrait. The old man
begged the woman not to take the portrait down until daybreak as it was Picasso's wish
the last time they met in the old man's dreams. The old man left with the money and
drove away. The only ones who were crying after dawn were the inheritors of the
woman who died when she discovered that the old man had fooled everyone including
her. The portrait was a blank sheet of paper with only one sentence;" Law doesn't
protect the fools."

The Kind Master and the Loyal Slave
In the past, white people used to have slaves to work for them and take
care of their farms and cattle. Slaves were mostly treated badly and the majority of
them worked without pay; they were hardly given anything to eat or anywhere to
sleep in. John was a slave. However, he was lucky to work for a very kind man, Mr.
Henderson, who treated him kindly and never did harm to him. John was also loyal
to his master; he worked hard and tried his best to please his owner. Mrs.
Henderson was very kind too, she provided John with the best food and clothes, and
always talked to him smiling. One day, while John was sleeping in his room next to
the house, he heard a noise among the bushes in the garden. "OH, there is a thief"
he whispered, and then crawled carefully until he reached a tree near the bushes. He
stood up and took the thief by surprise, John was very fast, strong and tough, and
was able to control the thief quickly. "John! Please, don't hurt me! I'm your friend
Mark" "Mark!" John exclaimed. "What are you doing here? Why did you come
here? "My master wants to kill me, he is cruel, he hates black people and mistreats
them. "Don't worry! I will talk to my master to help you, he is very generous!" John
said. The following day, John talked to his master about Mark! His master was
uncomfortable but accepted to shelter Mark in his house. Mark lived in John's room
and they shared everything. John didn't mind as he was very generous just like his
master. One day, John was woken up by a noise, he looked and saw Mark walking
towards the house carrying a gun! "Oh my God! Mark is a thief, he wants to kill my
master and rob the house, I should move at once" John went directly the opposite
way, climbed the house and stood up on the roof. There he decided. John took out
his knife and jumped. Mark saw something in the darkness landing on him,
frightened, he shot towards it. John was holding the knife tightly directing it
towards Mark's heart so the knife pierced it. Both John and Mark were covered with
blood, Mark looked at John and asked "Why did you do that?" "To pay back my
debt." They both closed their eyes and died. Mr. Henderson woke up frightened and
went outside to find John and Mark dead. He understood what had happened as
.John's back was against the house's door

The Helpful Teacher

Mr. Spenser used to be a math teacher. He taught at a primary school in one of the
poorest suburbs in London. Mr. Spenser was known of his wide knowledge, smiling
face and warm generous heart. He always arrived at Queen Elizabeth School early to
help the weak students who had problems with their study. People who lived near
the school admired and loved him so much as he took care of their children. He tried
to encourage other teachers at the same school to help their students before or after
school. However, the teachers always apologized and evaded doing so. One day,
while Mr. Spenser was taking the attendance in the classroom, he noticed that one of
the most outstanding students, Thomas, was absent. "Where is Thomas?" He asked.
"He is absent, teacher." One of the students said. "I know that he is absent, but do
you know why he is absent? He is studious." The teacher said." "I saw him in the
bakery yesterday, I think he works there, maybe he dropped out of school." Another
student said. "I see, let's start our lesson." The teacher said. After school, the teacher
headed directly to the bakery. When he arrived there, he asked the baker's about the
boy, and why he had left school. The man explained that the boy's family was
suffering from a harsh financial situation after the father had lost his job at the
factory and the boy was forced to leave school and work to help his family make a
living. The teacher asked the baker to talk to the boy in private. The baker called the
boy, who came from inside the internal room covered with flour. "How are you
Thomas?" The teacher asked smilingly "I am fine teacher, why are you here!?"
Thomas wondered. "I came here to offer you a job." The teacher said. "A job?"
Thomas exclaimed. "Yes, I want you to help me teach some weak students who are
younger than you, how much money do you get here?" The teacher asked. "Two
dollars per day." Thomas replied. "I will give you three dollars per day, what do you
think?" The teacher asked "I really like to go back to school and I need the job!"
Thomas murmured. "I want you to tell me your decision tomorrow." The teacher
said. "Ok, thank you teacher, I promise I'll talk to you tomorrow morning." Thomas
replied. That night, the teacher couldn't help thinking about the poor boy; he hardly
slept. The following day, when the teacher arrived at school, he caught a glimpse of
a boy standing near the school gate, it was Thomas. He was carrying his books.
"Thomas, so glad to see you!" the words broke out of the teacher's mouth. "I'm so
grateful for you…dad" Thomas said, he was about to shed a tear. "Oh, Thomas, this
is my duty, I need you and you need me, let's start doing what we can to make
people happy!" the teacher said gently wiping the tear off Thomas' face. "Yes,
teacher, I'll do my best." Thomas smiled.

The Identity Card
Amando was a poor man. He hated the rich; "They stole the money of the poor", he
thought. He decided to return the money those who deserved it. He started his career
by watching the rich people's houses for days. After that, he decided the best time to
break in and steal their money, jewels and precious items. Months passed, yet
nobody doubted Amando as he used to distribute what he stole among the poor on
the very same day of the theft and never kept a penny in his pocket. One day, the
police came to Amando's humble house and took him to the police station. The
officer asked Amando to show him his identity card, Amando started looking for it
but he didn't find it. The police started asking him questions and he answered them
all. The investigations proved he was innocent because the police hadn't found a
penny in his house and he denied all the charges with a calm heart, brave eyes and a
fluent tongue. One day, while Amando was watching a rich doctor named Mr.
Jeffry, he noticed that the doctor only treated poor patients. Surprisingly, the doctor
also gave them money instead of taking it from them. "Oh my God, Am I
dreaming?!" He wondered. He followed the doctor and discovered that he had also
founded a charity to help the poor. Amando kept waiting for the doctor until he
came out. He followed the doctor to his house and when they reached there, he
recognized the house, it was one of the houses he had burgled. "How bad I was!
How can I burgle a house of such a great man?!" "I thought all rich people are cruel
and greedy, but this man showed me the opposite" He regretted. Amando
approached the door and rang the bell. The doctor himself opened the door. "Come
on in, my brother" the doctor said. "Thank you, doctor." Amando said. "How can I
help you? Are you sick?" the doctor asked. "Actually I'm not, I'm looking for a job
and I want you to help me." Amando said. "I'm looking for a man who knows all the
rich people's houses." The doctor said. Amando's eyes widened with astonishment.
"They monthly pay some money to help the charity provide food and medicine to
the poor, can you help us?" The doctor asked. "Yes, of course I can." Amando said.
"Well, come tomorrow to the charity." The doctor said. "Thank you sir, thank you."
Amando said. "Wait a minute, don't forget to bring this thing with you." The doctor
said handing something over to Amando. Amando looked at that thing, it was his

The Good Prince

Long time ago, a cruel king called Peterson ruled a big country where the people
had harsh and unbearable life. His wife had died ten years before while giving birth.
However, she had gifted him with a handsome son, Prince Stefan, the king's only
son. Though Stefan was young, he didn't like the way his father chose to rule his
people; his father's policy led people to unemployment, poverty and crimes because
of the high taxes, low salaries, bad healthcare system and miserable education
conditions. Many people rebelled against that tyrant, but they were crushed
mercilessly. Some of them fled, some were jailed and many were killed. The prince
talked to his father several times but all his effort went in vain as the king
surrounded himself with wicked evil dishonest advisors. They always encouraged
the king to use force, impose more and more taxes and never have mercy upon his
people. Desperate, the prince thought of an incredible plan. "I love my father, but I
love humanity more" he murmured. The following day, the prince wore very humble
clothes that he took from a servant, took as much gold coins as he could from his
father's special box, jumped on his horse and hurried towards the city leaving behind
the castle, which filled the country with evil. The Prince started helping people with
his money. He didn't uncover his real identity. All the people, who were very
hopeless and unhappy, kept talking unfriendly about the king in front of the prince
who knew they were right and never lied as his father was really a mischievous
king. The king was furious. He sent thousands of his soldiers to look for his son.
They looked for the prince everywhere, but the prince's disguise was so perfect that
they couldn't find him. The prince kept helping people secretly, giving them what
they needed for their farms and children, therefore the people in the country loved,
trusted and became loyal to this man. Years passed, the distressed king felt terribly
ill. He knew that he had destroyed his nation because of his cruelty and merciless
heart. The king wanted to leave his country in the hands of a different king. He
announced that the people of the country should choose a man to be the king and
bring him to the castle. The following day, the people came to the castle in great
groups carrying the prince over their shoulders. The king met the prince, who took
off the veil that was covering his face and looked at his father, both men cried. The
king was very tired but happy, he hugged his son and said "I knew the people were
going to choose you" The prince helped his father go to his bedroom where he lay
on his bed forever.

The Choice
Long, long time ago, two young men Hali and Jeff worked on a farm, sewing,
cultivating and irrigating the palm trees. One day, while they were resting and having
lunch, Hali said "I wish I had a lot of money and nothing else". "Are you serious?"
Jeff was astonished and asked. "Yes, with money you can do whatever you want!" "I
don't think so, I wish I could be intelligent and help people solve their problems." Jeff
replied. "What a silly wish! Are you crazy?!" Hali exclaimed. The following day,
while they were working on the farm, Hali dug out a strange old jug, and when they
rubbed it trying to clean it, a huge genie appeared in front of them. "Naaaa! You have
disturbed me and spoiled my sleep! I will never forgive you! I'll punish you both.
"Please forgive us, please!" Hali and Jeff begged. "No, you have to choose, one of
you has to be clever and poor, the other is going to be rich and fool." The genie
thundered! Without any hesitation, Hali cried I want to be rich" and at once, he found
himself carrying two bags of gold. "I want to be very clever and I don't mind staying
poor!" Jeff said. Nothing changed to his appearance because he was poor, however,

Kindness Lasts Forever
Mr. Helsinki was a very rich man. However, he was cruel and greedy too. He used
to lend people money, and if they couldn't pay it back, he took their cattle, farms or
houses. He was a very unpleasant man. Most of the people of his town lived
miserable and unhappy life because of him. One day, a stranger came to the town
and made great relationships with the people there. He wasn't rich or handsome, yet
he was witty, resourceful and creative. His name was Fredrik. People complained to
Fredrik about Mr. Helsinki. They described his cruelty and greediness. Fredrik
promised them to find a solution for that problem and thought thoroughly. The
following day, he came up with an idea that might solve the problem, and talked to
many people in the town about it. Then, he asked them to contribute; each one of
the citizens had to give only one dollar. He also asked some rich people to donate
for his venture. A few weeks later, he founded a charity in the town. The charity
supplied farmers and other merchants with their needs provided that they returned
the money by installments. Consequently, the farmers and merchants became
financially independent and didn't need Mr. Helsinki any more. As a result, Mr.
Helsinki was distressed when no one talked to him, asked about him or even

Always Sincere
Samuel was a very hardworking, honest laborer. Honestly, He was the most loyal
worker in the factory. He was the first to come and the last to leave, yet he had a
disastrous defect; he liked to sleep too much and doesn't care when or where to
sleep. One day, while he was working on one of the machines, he fell asleep and
started snoring. He was very unlucky because it was the owner of the factory
himself, Mr. Royce, who was roving around the factory to check over the workers'
productivity. The other workers envied Samuel as he got the management's trust for
his hard work and persistent effort, so they thought that was the chance to prove
their superiority to him in front of the factory's owner. Purposefully, no one woke
him up or even tried to do so. When the owner of the factory saw him asleep, he got
mad and started shouting. Samuel woke up shaking and tried to say something, but
the infuriated man didn't give him the chance to say a single word. Samuel was
fired! He lost his job. Remember, Samuel was the most loyal and sincere worker in
the factory; he wanted to meet the owner of the factory before leaving the place
where he worked for long hot days and cold endless nights. The owner of the
factory refused to see him. He insisted on meeting the management, but they
declined decisively. Desperately, he asked for a pen and a piece of paper and wrote
something, folded it and gave it to the secretary. He turned his back and left the
factory. The secretary crumbled the paper and threw it in the metal trash bin. That
night, he called the manager. The day after, he called again, yet the manager was
told not to answer his calls. After that, he went to the police station and told them
his story. They only pretended to act in front of him. But as soon as he left, they
laughed and laughed at that crazy man as they thought. A week passed when the
manager received a call from the guards of the factory telling him about a huge fire
in the factory. The fire ate everything in the factory and everything turned black.
The great fortune changed into ash. The loss was estimated at millions. While the
manager was wandering around the devastated factory, he noticed a crumbled piece
of paper under the secretary's desk. He picked it up and read "Dear Mr. Royce, I
had a nightmare while I was sleeping, and I am afraid it will come true. The
machine in section six is in a terrible condition and will explode at 3.00 a.m. on
".Wednesday next week

A Dangerous Initiative

Some children were playing football in the street when a man came and asked if

there was a hotel nearby. A child named Ted went to help the man find the nearest

hotel, the children waited for him to return for a long time, but he didn't come back.

His friends grew worried and they went directly to the police station to ask for help,

the police officers made great effort looking for the boy. They searched the parks,

hospitals, shops and houses but all that effort went in vain. Unfortunately, he was in
nowhere. A few days later, a hunter was wandering in the forest near the city

looking for an animal to hunt when he heard a voice which he thought belonged to

a young boy. The hunter went close to the voice and found Ted tied to a tree.

Without hesitation, the hunter untied him and started asking him why he was tied to

that tree, but Ted was very scared and begged the man to take him back to his house

in the city. Later, the police started collecting evidence about the incident and

looking for the criminal who completely disappeared. Ted's friends decided to

search the forest carefully and fortunately they succeeded. One bright morning,

Ted's best friend James could see a man making a fire in the middle of the forest, he

was the same man who tried to kidnap Ted. At once, James headed to the police

station and reported what he saw. Then, the police formed a well-equipped and

trained team to arrest the dangerous man. The police attacked at night while he was

sleeping in his tent. The team was able to take him by surprise and afterwards, they

discovered that he was working with traffickers who usually abduct children and

force them to work in illegal kinds of jobs. Ted and his friends learnt a great and

important lesson, they would never trust strangers and they should be more careful

in the future.
