Phonics Screening Check Week of Workout
‘c’, ‘oo’, ‘ea’ and ‘g’
Test your phonics skills with this week of workouts! This booklet
focuses on a few different graphemes that all make different
sounds. These are ‘c’ as in ‘cell’, ‘oo’ as in ‘book’, ‘ea’ as in ‘head’
and ‘g’ as in ‘gem’.
You will need to cut out the word cards at the back of this booklet to
help you with these activities.
Use this timetable to record your progress: tick or add a sticker or
smiley face when you’ve completed each day’s activity.
Instructions
1. Deal out the cards, face down.
2. Pick up your cards in a pile and hold them in cell
your hand, but do not look at them.
3. Decide who will start.

The weather in the city was icy cold. Gemma looked at the footprints
she was leaving in the snow behind her. Her face was warmed
by her scarf and her head kept cosy by her hat. Gemma took the
turn past the wooden fences and stepped onto her street. A gentle
ginger cat trotted over to her and circled around her legs. She was
almost home!
