BACKGROUND

Marriage is one of the oldest institutions in human society. As society has evolved
so has this august institution. There are some ways of getting are life partner that
have been outdated while others have been embraced. In I will wait, Msora brings
to trial the issue of wife inheritance and how it takes away the freedom of an
individual, rudo, to be more specific. One’s choice is overridden as her parents do
not give a listening ear to her. Her education is about to be affected but they do not
care since they fear that she might be difficult to control. Marriage is therefore
portrayed as the choice of the parents.

THE CALA

The CALA has three separate parts, Part A and Part B. You must respond to both
parts.
PART A

1. Identify and briefly explain any five ways (traditional and modern) used in
Zimbabwe to get a life partner. [5]

2. Identify and explain some problems faced in forced marriages. [4]

3. Discuss the four roles played by aunts in the process of their nieces’
marriages. [4]
4. Discuss briefly the process of marriage in your community, ie, how marriage
is handled. [2]

PART B

Write an essay entitled, “Marriage should be the choice of the one getting
married.” [10]

BACKGROUND

Women in society face a number of challenges. It is through the works of


playwrights such as Bertha Msora that the plight of women is brought to light.

THE CALA

The CALA has three separate parts, Part A, Part B and Part C. You must respond
to all parts.

PART A

5. Identify and briefly explain five challenges that women are facing in the
play, I will wait. [5]
 Forced marriage
 Early marriage
 Abuse (verbal, physical, emotional, sexual…)
 Denied right to education
 Women’s voice stifled, etc
6. Identify the root causes, the reasons behind the challenges that the women
are facing in the play. [5]
 Culture and tradition
 Patriarchy
 Lack of education
 Superstition
 Disunity among women, etc

PART B

Carry out an interview on women’s contemporary challenges in order to see if


women’s still face the same challenges that they faced about two decades ago. In
the interview the candidates ought to interview males and females the same
questions. The candidate must also probe for solutions to the challenges, both from
a male point of view and a female point of war. [10]

 Data can be presented raw or processed

PART C

Using research notes, write a speech to be delivered at a women’s empowerment


conference. The speech must touch on women’s contemporary challenges, root
causes and ways of alleviating the challenges. [10]
