My native language is aze, but we all speak Turkish by default, later to learn Russian and English at

school. It is mandatory to learn a second foreign language and take an exam when we graduate high
school. In Azerbaijan there are also different minority languages, such as Talish, Kurd, Lezgi and many
others. Some of these languages would be from the list of 5000 languages in the peripheral language
of the de Swaan’s pyramid, while the official language itself would go to the central languages
category in the global terms. However, in Finland, locally, the languages I speak would be the
peripherals.
