Inverter Configuration Guidance – SMA Sunny Island 6.0H/8.

0H
For Pylontech US2000/US3000/Phantom-S 48V Lithium-ion Phosphate Battery Module

This document describes how to manage partial of the settings on inverter portal/touch
panel to establish the communication with reference battery module. It cannot be defined
as an inverter or battery installation/operation manual. Please read the inverter/battery
installation/operation manual in detail first before manage the settings follow this
document.

Reference battery module: US2000, US3000, Phantom-S

Reference application: off-grid only, single-phase/three-phase

Caution

1. Inverter can only power on from battery side, if battery voltage is below 47V and remain
10mins, inverter will be switched off, which will require a manual restart on inverter.
2. The inverter self-consumption is ~15W during idle module, please calculate base on the
battery capacity and idle module duration for the cut-off SOC to maintain inverter not
shut down, to avoid of manual restart.
3. During first time power on the whole system, the battery module will suffer an over
current protection (RED alarm on), this is due to a pre-charge steps of the inverter
component, with a restart of the battery module such situation will be revived.
4. If the communication between inverter and battery is time-out for≥1min till 10mins,
inverter will shut down and back to idle module. During this period if communication
back to normal, inverter will restart operation automatically. If time-out>10mins,
inverter will switch off.
5. When battery SOC≤20%, the battery status light on inverter front panel will be RED.
When 20%<SOC≤50%, the battery status light will be YELLOW. When SOC>50%, the
battery status light will be green.

Configuration

1、Log into SMA portal, select ‘Start the installation assistant’.

2、Setup network base on local condition

3、Setup date and time

4 / 8
4、Select energy meter base on local condition

5、Click ‘New system configuration’

6、Click ‘Start the new system configuration’

5 / 8
7、Select application ‘Functions for offgrid operation’,Nominal voltage and frequency according to
local condition

8、Setup System configuration ‘Type’ and ‘External sources’ base on local condition. The nominal
current and max. current can be set base on application scenario, or 25*X(X means amount of
US2000/Phantom-S connect to the inverter), or 37*Y(Y means amount of US3000 connect to the
inverter), for instance there are 4 pcs of US2000 then the current can be set to 25Amps * 4pcs =
100Amps. If such value is higher than inverter max. current, then set as the max. current inverter can
hold.

9、Setup Battery Type to ‘Lithium-ion(Li-ion)’, Nominal capacity as 50*X(X means amount of
US2000/Phantom-S connect to the inverter), or 74*Y(Y means amount of US3000 connect to the
inverter), for instance there are 4 pcs of US2000 then the capacity can be set to 50Ah * 4pcs = 200Ah.

In some case the Nominal capacity cannot be save correctly during first time set-up, please check the
‘Summary’ for all the parameters, if not saved please go back to this page and set again.

10、Review all the parameters, if everything is correct saved, press ‘continue’ to finish the set-up.

Application Mode

1、 Back-up(off-grid) mode:Battery only discharge when grid not available. Under ‘Protection Mode’
column, the Start time & End time A/B can be set base on application scenario, Inverter will
follow ‘Limit of battery state of charge A/B’ to cut-off from discharge.
It`s suggested to set the ‘Limit of battery state of charge A/B’ both at 20% to avoid inverter
switched off. The ‘Limit of battery state of charge C’ can be set at 10%.

2、Network request via battery state of charge:It can be defined as a force charge logic for battery
module from grid. If you select ‘Activated’ as ‘Yes’, the battery will forced charging from grid when SOC
down to the ‘Switch-on limit in time range’ and stop such force charge when SOC reach the ‘Switch-off
limit in time range’. Such function can be set base on application scenario to further avoid battery
being over-discharged which lead to inverter switch off
