Summer Break Assignment (2023-24)

Subject: Mathematics (041)
Class: X

General Instructions:-

1. This assignment is based on Ch-1 (Real Numbers), Ch-2 (Polynomials), Ch-3(Pair of Linear Equations
in Two Variables) and Ch-4 (Quadratic Equations).

2. All the questions are based on the CBSE question paper guidelines.
3. This assignment will contribute towards internal assessment, and hence, it should be done quite sincerely
in 'Assignment Notebook', lab activity in lab manual.

Real Numbers:

1. If p is a prime number then prove that √𝑝 is irrational.

2. Prove that (√𝑎 + √𝑏) is irrational, where a and b are prime.
3. Six balls commence tolling together and toll at intervals of 2, 4,6,8,10,12 minutes respectively. In 36 hours,
how many times do they toll together?
4. Find the least number of square tiles required to pave the ceiling of room 15m17cm long and 9m2cm broad.
5. Find the greatest number of 4 digits which is exactly divisible by 15, 24 and 36.
Polynomials:

6. Find the zeros of the polynomial2√3x2-5x+√3 and verify the relationship between its zeros and coefficients.

7. If x=3 and x—3 are the Zeros of the quadratic equation ax2+7x+b=0 then find the values of aand b.
8. Find the quadratic equation whose zeros are 2 and -6.
9. If one zero of the polynomial (a2+9)+13x+6a is reciprocal of the other, find the value of a.
Pair of Linear Equations in Two Variables:
10. Draw the graphs of the following equations on the same graph paper: 2x+y=2; 2x+y=6. Find the coordinates
of the vertices of the trapezium formed by these lines. Also, find the area of the trapezium so formed.
11. Solve: x+y=a+b; ax-by= a2-b2.
12. Solve: 217x+131y=913; 131x+217y=827
13. Find the values of m and n for which the following system of linear equations has infinitely many solutions:
3x+4y=12; (m+n)x +2(m-n)y= (5m-1)
14. A two digit number is such that the product of its digits is 14. If 45 is added to the number, the digits
interchange their places. Find the number.

Quadratic Equations:
15. Solve the following equation by using factorization method:x2-(2b-1)+(b2-b-20)=0
𝑎 𝑏 1 1
16. Solve (𝑎𝑥−1) + (𝑏𝑥−1) = (𝑎 + 𝑏), x≠ 𝑎 , 𝑏
17. If 3 is a root of the quadratic equation x2-x+k=0, find the value of p so that the roots of the equation
x2+k(2x+k+2)+p=0
18. A train covers a distance of 300 km at a uniform speed. If the speed of the train is increased by 5 km/hr., it
takes 2 hours less in the journey. Find the original speed of the train.
