Volunteer role description

Role Restaurant Cashier Volunteer

Department Catering

Location Princess Alice Hospice, Esher

Responsible to Head Chef

The catering team meet all the catering demands of the Hospice including patient
meals, hot and cold dining room service, sandwiches and snacks within the coffee
shop and meeting room support. This volunteer role would support the catering
team by operating the till, allowing the catering team to concentrate on food
preparation and serving our customers.

Time commitment
One shift a week, Sunday 11.30am or 12pm start to 2pm or 2.30pm

Tasks and activities


 Serve customers and use the till
 Undertake some kitchen porter roles
 Maintain standards of cleanliness and food hygiene
 Assist with the running of the coffee shop if required
 Work as part of the team

The above list is not exhaustive, and volunteers may be asked to take on other
tasks to support and assist the smooth running of the Hospice.

Skills and personal qualities


 Trustworthy and reliable
 Have good communication skills and be willing to serve the public
 Enjoy working as a member of a team as well as having initiative to work
effectively alone
 Good customer service skills – ability to handle money
 A commitment to our values of integrity, compassion, accountability, respect
and excellence.

Training and support


 Excellence in Volunteering, Group Induction and Sage & Thyme face to face
training
 ELearning including Confidentiality and Information Governance,
Safeguarding, and Equality and Diversity. Health and Safety/Fire Safety and
Food Hygiene
 Access to the PAH education programme
 Regular supervision meetings and ongoing training
