Deforestation is also one of the threats of our Philippine Eagle and other wildlife as it is their only home. Without the forests, the eagles and wildlife in all forms are unable to establish nests and to find food to raise their young. That is also why our PEs and other wildlife are increasingly led to look for food closer to human habitats because of the scarcity of resources in the forest. Our national bird, the Great Philippine Eagle, is facing the threat of extin Currently, there are only about 400 pairs left in the wild, and that is just a rough estimate. Their species might become extinct in 20 years if nothing is done to stop the continuous decline of its population. A, 6. Donors’ board The Philippine Eagle Foundation is non-profit NGO. As you can see from this board honoring our supporters, not all birds are adopted. PE Adopters donate 200k annually and non PEs 25k to cover the raptor’s upkeep, food and enclosure maintenance. The Development Program fuels the PEF's operations through fundraising and communications. We reach out to like-minded individuals and institutions to raise support and further the conservation mission. 7. Other Philippine Eagle enclosure PE Mabuhay is also one of the milestones of the PEF as she is the only daughter of PE Pag-asa. She’s a second-generation product of Artificial Insemination. Pair of Pinsker’s Hawk Eagles PEC as an important venue for PHE research Successfully bred in captivity for the first time at the Philippine Eagle Center Chick hatched on April 2, 2012 The chick’s parents are both rehabilitated birds. They came from the wild and were turned over to the PEF for rehabilitation from their injuries. Foodstock area Food stock and diet of eagles This is where the food for the raptors and other animals are raised to ensure a disease-free stock such as rabbits, white mice, goat and fruits. These stocks are needed for the daily food requirements of every animal at the Center.* The work we do here at the Center is an important part of our holistic approach to Philippine Eagle conservation that ultimately benefits the people, especially those living in the forests with the eagles. Monkey Enclosure ‘© Onthe year 1986, Mr. John Whitehead, a British naturalist discovered the Philippine Eagle in Paranas, Samar. It was first believed to exclusively prey on monkeys hence the name monkey-eating eagle. Recent study shows that it is a generalist feeder, endemic in the four islands in our country. On May 8, 1978 it was renamed as the Philippine Eagle. According to the studies from our research and conservation program, the monkeys are just 3% of the PEs diet. 8. Owls * Owls, in general, as with the other raptors, have fixed eye socket, rendering them unable to rotate their eyeballs, which in turn forces them to stretch their necks. Their tissue and blood vessels are designed to flex. The advantage of this ability is this allows them to look over their shoulder to be on the lookout for prey or to avoid predators. Balete Tree © These trees are usually associated with folklore but in the our Phili pine Forests, native trees naturally adapt to its local surrounding which makes them more resilient to strong typhoons compared to exotic or alien tree species. * Exotic tree species are fast growing trees but studies shows that this proved to be ineffective as these exotic trees have negative effects on the ecosystem, One of that is they tend to be invasive preventing other native plants to grow and some are fatal to wild flora and fauna. Our Philippine Eagle is monogamous, which means they take one Pair for life and the female eagle lays one egg every two years. That is because they wait for their offspring to be fully independent usually within two years before producing another one. The 5-minute video, is about the conservation work of the PEF and the release of Philippine Eagle Matatag back to wild. On 2011, PE Matatag was rehabilitated at the PEC for three (3) years. After the successful rehabilitation, he was released back to the wild on 2014 at Brey. Carmen, Baguio District. PE Matatag was monitored by the Research and Conservation Team until unfortunately, he was shot at the same after mistaken as an ordinary bird. PE Matatag acquired a right wing fractured, the reason why he can't be released back to the wild. He was then again rehabilitated at the PEC and is adopted by PLOT now named MVP Eagle.
