Coordinate Geometry
Total Marks: 21
(21 = Platinum, 18 = Gold, 16 = Silver, 14 = Bronze)

1. (a) Find an equation of the line joining A(7, 4) and B(2, 0), giving your answer in the form
ax + by + c = 0, where a, b and c are integers.
(3)
(b) Find the length of AB, leaving your answer in surd form.
(2)

The point C has coordinates (2, t), where t > 0, and AC = AB.

(c) Find the value of t.

(1)
(d) Find the area of triangle ABC.
(2)

2. The points 𝐴 , 𝐵 and 𝐶 have coordinates (5,1) , (𝑝, 7) and (8,2) respectively.
Given that the distance between points 𝐴 and 𝐵 is twice the distance between points 𝐴 and
𝐶 , calculate the possible values of 𝑝 . (7)

3.

Figure 1 shows a rectangle 𝐴𝐵𝐶𝐷 .

The point 𝐴 lies on the 𝑦 -axis and the points 𝐵 and 𝐷 lie on the 𝑥 -axis as shown in Figure
1
(a) Given that the straight line through the points 𝐴 and 𝐵 has equation 5𝑦 + 2𝑥 = 10 show
that the straight line through the points 𝐴 and 𝐷 has equation 2𝑦 − 5𝑥 = 4 . (2)

(b) Hence find the area of the rectangle 𝐴𝐵𝐶𝐷 . (4)
