Instructions for the iSeries

Before You Install

The SequeLink Server setup installs the SequeLink Server. Before you install, make
sure that:

Your SPSS product for the iSeries platform (e.g., Clementine Server) requires
SequeLink for your database access technology. For more information, refer to
the documentation for your SPSS product and the SequeLink sections in Getting
Started with SPSS Data Access Technology (in the documentation directory on the
CD-ROM). Note that Connect ODBC is not a supported data access technology
on the iSeries platform.

You are installing SequeLink Server on the iSeries hosting your DB2/400
database. This can be the same iSeries that your SPSS product and SequeLink
Client are running on.
Note: Throughout this document, references to the iSeries refer to the IBM eServer
iSeries 400 and AS/400.
Important: Use the installation instructions in this document, not the Merant
installation instructions, to perform the initial installation steps for SequeLink Server.
Use the Merant SequeLink documentation, which is available on this CD-ROM, to
configure and manage SequeLink Server.

Installing the Merant SequeLink Documentation

We strongly recommend that SequeLink administrators refer to these additional
documents after following the instructions in this document to install SequeLink
Server.

To install and access the SequeLink online documentation:

From your SPSS product CD-ROM. If your SPSS product includes a single CD-ROM, use
Acrobat Reader to read /Merant/Books/Sequelnk/books.pdf, which contains links to all
of the SequeLink documentation.

From the SPSS Data Access Pack CD-ROM. If your SPSS product includes a separate
SPSS Data Access Pack CD-ROM, Navigate to the /Documentation/Merant/slnk
directory and select the documentation you want to read.

Installing Acrobat Reader

If you do not already have Acrobat Reader, you can install it from the CD-ROM.

There is no Acrobat Reader for the iSeries. Follow the instructions below to install it
on another operating system.

To install Adobe Acrobat on Windows

Follow these steps to install Acrobat Reader on Windows:

From your SPSS product CD-ROM. If your SPSS product includes a single CD-ROM,
follow these steps to install Acrobat Reader:

E Insert your product CD into the CD-ROM drive.

E The AutoPlay feature presents a menu. Choose Install Acrobat Reader.

E Follow the instructions that appear on the screen.

From the SPSS Data Access Pack CD-ROM. If your SPSS product includes a separate
SPSS Data Access Pack CD-ROM, follow these steps to install Acrobat Reader:

E Insert the SPSS Data Access Pack CD into the CD-ROM drive.

E Your Web browser opens a Web page.

E Click the Acrobat Reader tab.

E Under Acrobat Reader for PDF Format, click the Windows link.

E Internet Explorer. If you are using Internet Explorer, select Run this program from its
current location.
or
Netscape. If you are using Netscape, select Save to disk, note the name and location
of the saved file, and double-click it in Windows Explorer to run it.

To install Adobe Acrobat on UNIX

Follow these steps to install Acrobat Reader on UNIX:

E Insert your product CD into the CD-ROM drive.

E Navigate to the /Acrobat/unix directory.

E Uncompress the file for your operating system.

E Refer to Instguid.txt for installation instructions.

Requirements
SequeLink Server requirements vary according to the operating system on which you
run SequeLink Server and the database that you are using.
SequeLink Server 4.51 is the supported version for the iSeries. The supported
iSeries database is DB2/400. For requirements details, see the documentation for your
SPSS product and the Merant SequeLink documentation.

Installing SequeLink Server

Install SequeLink Server on the computer that is running your database.

Restore the installation and product components

E Start an OS/400 terminal session.

E In the QGPL library, create a save file called SQINS405. On the OS/400 command
line, type:

CRTSAVF QGPL/SQINS405

E Press Enter.

E In the QGPL library, create a save file called sqv3r7m0. On the OS/400 command line,
type:

CRTSAVF QGPL/sqv3r7m0

E Press Enter.

E Copy the SQINS405 save file from the CD-ROM to the SQINS405 save file in the
QGPL library. On the OS/400 command line, type:

CPYFRMSTMF FROMSTMF(’/QOPT/SPSS/Merant/SLServer/as400/SQINS405.SAV’) tombr(’/QSY

S.LIB/QGPL.LIB/SQINS405.FILE’) MBROPT(*REPLACE)

E Press Enter.

E Copy the sqv3r7m0 save file from the CD-ROM to the sqv3r7m0 save file in the
QGPL library. On the OS/400 command line, type:

CPYFRMSTMF FROMSTMF(’/QOPT/SPSS/Merant/SLServer/as400/sqv3r7m0.SAV’) tombr(’/QSY

S.LIB/QGPL.LIB/sqv3r7m0.FILE’) MBROPT(*REPLACE)

E Press Enter.

E Restore the installation program files library. On the OS/400 command line, type:

RSTLIB SAVLIB(SQINST405) DEV(*SAVF) SAVF(QGPL/SQINS405)

Install SequeLink Server

Note: During installation, you will see a message that V5R1 is not a supported OS/400
release. You can safely ignore this message since you will apply a patch for V5R1
compatibility after installing SequeLink Server.

E Add the SQINST405 library to your library list. On the command line, type:

ADDLIBLE SQINST405

E Enter the SequeLink Server installation command. On the command line, type:

SQINSTALL FROM(*FILE) SAVF(QGPL/sqv3r7m0)

E Press Enter.

E The SequeLink for DB2/400 V 4.5 Installation screen appears. To accept the default
SQLNK45 installation library, press Enter. To choose another installation library,
enter the library name and press Enter.

E If SequeLink Server is already installed on the iSeries, a Library already exists message
appears. To exit the installation, type C. To install SequeLink Server over the current
installation, type I. To install SequeLink Server in another library, type R.

E Press Enter.

E A Restoring SequeLink Product Library message appears. The install asks What type of
network are you using? Enter TCP.

E Press Enter.

E The INTERSOLV Product Registration screen appears. Enter the following values:

Name: Your name or company contact.

Company: Company where you are installing SequeLink Server.
Serial Number: 000000456829
IPE: Leave blank.

E Press Enter.

E The License Agreement screen appears. To accept the License Agreement, press F10.

E The message INTERSOLV Product Registration successful appears. To exit the

installation, press F3.

E The message Start TCPSPAWN listener job now? appears. Type NO and press Enter.

Note: You can edit the SequeLink Server registration information after the install. On
the OS/400 command line, type:

ADDLIBLE SQLNK45

EDTIPEKEY

where SQLNK45 is the SequeLink Server installation library.

Apply the SequeLink Server Patch

Apply the latest patch for SequeLink Server for V5R1. The patch allows SequeLink
Server to work with V5R1 and fixes several issues for support of Clementine.

The SequeLink Server patch is located on the Data Access Pack CD at:
/QOPT/SPSS/Merant/SLServer/as400/V5R1ptch/sqv3r7m0.
The SequeLink Server patch Readme is located on the Data Access Pack CD at:
/QOPT/SPSS/Merant/SLServer/as400/V5R1ptch/README.txt. TheReadme is
provided by Merant and provides information on the patch; however, use the patch
installation instructions provided here.

Note: Apply this patch after installing Sequelink Server but before starting the
TCPSPAWN listener.

E Start an OS/400 terminal session.

E In the QGPL library, create a save file called V5R1PATCH. On the OS/400 command
line, type:

CRTSAVF QGPL/V5R1PATCH

E Press Enter.

E Copy the sqv3r7m0 file from the CD-ROM to the V5R1PATCH save file in the QGPL
library. On the OS/400 command line, type:

CPYFRMSTMF FROMSTMF(’/QOPT/SPSS/Merant/SLServer/as400/V5R1ptch/sqv3r7m0’) TOMB

R(’/QSYS.LIB/QGPL.LIB/V5R1PATCH.FILE’) MBROPT(*REPLACE)

E Press Enter.

E Rename the TCP and APPC program objects within the SQLNK45library so they are
not overwritten when the patch is installed. You will need these objects if you need to
back out the patch.

E Restore objects from the save file to the SQLNK45 library . On the OS/400 command
line, type:

RSTOBJ OBJ(*ALL) SAVLIB(SQV3R7M0) DEV(*SAVF) SAVF(V5R1PATCH) RSTLIB(SQLNK45) MB

ROPT(*ALL) ALWOBJDIF(*ALL)

E In the SQLNK45 library, replace the program objects SSTCPNONE and SSTCPALL
with the TCP program object.

Start TCPSPAWN Listener

E Add the SequeLink Server installation library to your library list. On the OS/400
command line, type:

ADDLIBLE SQLNK45

E On the OS/400 command line, type:

CALL STRTCPSPWN

E Press Enter.

License SequeLink Server

Before you use SequeLink Server on the iSeries, you need to license it to run with
SPSS products. To do so, follow these steps:

E Add the SequeLink Server installation library to your library list. On the OS/400
command line, type:

ADDLIBLE SQLNK45

where SQLNK45 is the SequeLink Server installation library.

E Edit the service initialization file. On the command line, type:

EDTSQSRV TCPNONE

where TCPNONE is the name of the service for which you want to set the OEMId.

E In the [access control] section of the service initialization file, add the following key:

OEMId = 14804390

E Press F3, and then press Enter to save the service initialization file.

Connecting to Your Database with SequeLink Server

SequeLink client must be installed on the computers that will connect to your database
with SequeLink Server. For an overview of how SequeLink works with your SPSS
product, see Getting Started with SPSS Data Access Technology (in the documentation
directory on the CD-ROM).

To connect to a data source with SequeLink, the database and the SequeLink server
must be running and the SequeLink client must be installed on the computer that is
accessing and processing data for the SPSS product.
SequeLink client installation and data source configuration may be part of the
installation for your SPSS product or you may install it separately from the SPSS Data
Access Pack. For more information, see the installation documentation for your SPSS
product and the SPSS Data Access Pack Installation Instructions (in the
documentation directory on the CD-ROM).

Configuring and Managing SequeLink Server

Use the Merant SequeLink documentation, which is available on this CD-ROM, to

configure and manage SequeLink Server. See For more information, see "Installing the
Merant SequeLink Documentation". for information on how to access the Merant
SequeLink documentation including the following documents:

Getting Started. An introduction to SequeLink for all sites.

SequeLink Support for International Languages. A description of the configuration
that is required before SequeLink Server can access double-byte character set
(DBCS) data.

SequeLink Administrator’s Guide. Important configuration information for
SequeLink administrators.
