ACTIVITY 1

INTERPRETING PESTICIDE LABELS AS TO FORMULATION AND MIXING

Read the labels provided on the following pages and answer the questions below.
1. Using the BIDA label, answer the questions below.

a. What type of formulation is BIDA?

 Liquid

b. What is the symbol for the formulation?

 Emulsifiable Concentrate Solution

c. Does this formulation go on as is or must it be diluted? If diluted, with what?

 EC formulation, emulsion after diluting with water should be stable initially and
after 24 h, creaming and oil separation should not be observed. An emulsifiable
concentrate consists of an herbicide dissolved in an organic solvent with sufficient
emulsifier to create an oil/water emulsion when the concentrate is added to water.

d. How many parts per bottle of this formulation is active ingredient

(Lambdacyhalotrin)?

 2.5 Emulsifiable Concentrate

e. How would you prepare the spray mix using this formulation?

 Emulsifiable Concentrate contains a liquid active ingredient, solvent and agent to

allow formulation to mix with water to form an emulsion.
