BOARD OF ENGINEERS MALAYSIA CIRCULAR NO. 02 CONTINUING PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT (CPD) REQUIREMENTS IN exercise of powers con‘ered by Sections 15(2) and 13(3) of Act 138 Registration of Engineers Act 1967 (Revised 2075), and Regulation 20(1)() ofthe Registiaton of Engineers RRogulatons 1900 [P.U(A) 128], the Board of Engineers Malaysia (BEM) hereby proscriee further contions to be salsied for the purpose of issuance of the Carticate of Registration to Registered Professional Engineers with Practsing Cerificates, Registered Professional Engineers and Recisteres Inspectors of Works ae stated herein below, ‘The BEM in performing lis functions under Section 4(1}(2e) of Act 128 Registration of Enginoors Act 1987 (Revised ~ 2015) has caused « mandelory Continuing Professional Development (CPO) Programme te be undertaken by all’ Regiterad’ Professional Engineers with Practising Cortfcates, Registered Professional Engineers and Registered Inspectors of Works “This Creular announces the conditions hereon prescribed by the BEM in respect the futfiment of the required CPD Programme for the purpose of issuance of the annual Certicate of Registration to Registered Professional Engineers with Practising Certfoatos and Registered Professional Engineers; and the wrennal (once every tree years) Corficte of Registration to Regisiored Inspectors of Works DEFINITIONS: 8, For the purpose of the Circular th following definitions shall ppl. Unless defined below, all ferme used shall be as defines by the Registration of Engineers Act 1967, (CPD Programme ‘The cunwlative CPO Activities over a calendar year which controuie towards the Continuing. Professional Development of « Ragistored Professional Engineer with Practising Certfoates (PEPC), a Registered Professional Engineers (PE) or a Registered Inspectors of Works (1OW). Such a contribution would be reflected by tha CPD Houts colected by the sald PEPC, PE or OW. Inadminstering the CPO requirement as provided by this Circular, the policy adopted by the BEM for Ragistorod Professional Engineers with Pracising Certicaes (PEP) shal be: 12) The CPD requirement shall apply to all PEC. ') The annual CPD Hours required to be obisined by a PEPC shall be 50 CPD Hours; or any other quantly as may be preseribed by the BEM from time to time. ©) A Registered PEPC may apply to the BEM for an exomption of the CPD ‘requirement the approval of which shall be atthe discretion af the BEM, 44) Formal accreditation of an engineering activity a8 being an approved CPD ‘Activiy shall be accorded by the BEM based on erferla it has set. Such ‘accredited CPD Activites canbe caried out by credible and bona-ide learning ‘and training organizations. The BEM can cary out deemed accredited CPO ‘Activities atts own siscreton, 1) Aneagineering activity which fulfils the criteria set by the BEM to be considered ‘3 CPD Activity but which has not been pre-accredied nor pre-approved y the BEM can be submitted as part of the CPD Programme undertaken provided always that the detals of such an actly including information onthe content, hours of involvement, mode of delvery, venue and dates of activity together with the profle of persons conducting the actviy, shall accompany the ‘submision accordingly. The types of CPD Activity an allowable maximum CPD Hours slated under Para 22 may bbe amended as and when necessary atthe discretion ofthe BEM, 25, At the sole decretion of the BEM, a Registered IOW who in hisher apalcation forthe renewal of te triennial Cerificate of Regstraton, has fala fo submit to the BEM a CPD Programme with the required minimum ef 30 CPD Hours, may be alowed to contnas 0 bo registered subject to stnt remedal actions a¢ flows! 1. Hisher having already obtained at least 15 CPD Hours atthe point of making tha application; Having obiained at least 15 CPD Hours in the fst year of being allowed to continue tobe registered: ‘6.
