Ambitious, aggressive, and assertive - these 3A’s capture the essence of our proactive

mindset toward climate change, proven by numerous initiatives

Now, we've waited long enough to reflect: Are our goals truly accessible? And what can we
do to realize our prospects?
Ladies and Gentlemen let's find out: climate change do we miss the fourth A?

Considering a prime example: 2016 saw a collective agreement of 197 nations including
Vietnam, to limit global temperature rise to 1.5 Celsius by the year 2100 under the Paris
agreement. How’s it going?

Based on the 2022 update of the United Nations, we are heading to a 2.6C rise over the 21st
century, assuming complete execution of unilateral commitments, or unconditional NDCs.

This means that annual emissions must almost halve in 2030 to get on track, a seemingly
impossible prospect given that compromise and undertaken actions to date still remain a
substantial gap. Why?

 Over 95% of the world's coal consumption is taking place in countries that
committed to net zero, including China, India, and America. Global coal
demands also rebounded massively after covid19.

 In short, countries are well OFF TRACK to achieve even the globally highly
insufficient NDCs, let alone the 1.5C threshold.

Now let's narrow down our view - Vietnam, a developing economy in

Southeast Asia. Does this nation shed any light on our gloomy trend?

 Well, VN is standing out as one of the nations that pledged to phase out coal
and achieve zero carbon intensity by the 2040s.

 Sounds good, but in fact, until now the vast majority of Vietnamese commute
by vehicles running on fossil fuels every SINGLE day, Not to mention around
75% growth in coal consumption over the past five years.

 Reasonably, such ambitious targets seem out of grasp due to the actual conditions of
the nation.

 Tragic, right? Is it too late? Of course…unless we take action immediately. How

 Firstly, each and every nation has to acknowledge its limitations to set forward-
looking and more realistic goals. Moreover, All citizens of a country must be well-
informed about the dire consequences of climate change as well as their nation’s
environmental targets to create a truly impactful collective effort.
 To cut a long story short, we haven't made enough progress to navigate through the
harsh challenge of climate change. However, by setting achievable goals and
engaging the public, I’m sure that we can find the key to that hidden fourth A.
