Welcome to the Risk and Critical Control Management online course!

This instruction guide provides details of how to access and use the Risk and Critical Control
Management User Platform on edX edge, which will enable you to not only access all course
materials and activities but also create a user profile and interact with other cohort members.

Key features of the edX edge online platform include:

 Access to all course lectures, teaching materials and activities

 The ability to contribute to course discussion boards

edX edge Registration & Activation

SMI Education will enrol you in the Risk and Critical Control Management Course on
Step 1: edX edge.
edX edge Once the SMI Education team has enrolled you in the course, you will receive an

on you have been invited to join the course:

In order to access the Risk and Critical Control Management online user platform,
you will need to create a user account with edX edge.

To do this, follow the instructions in the email and fill in your details on the edX edge
registration page. Remember, it is essential to use the same email address that you
nominated when registering with us for the course.

NB: If you have previously undertaken online courses using the edX edge platform,
you will already have an edX edge account and will not be required to create a new
one.

 Once you have registered for an edX edge account, you will receive another
Step 2: automatically generated email* from no-reply@registration.edx.org confirming this
registration.

Account This email will contain a link to activate your account. Once you click on this link, you

access all of your course materials.

Using the edX edge platform

edX edge Once you have activated your edX edge account, you will be able to access the
online edX edge online learning platform and the Risk and Critical Control Management
platform course materials. (Note that if the web page is not displaying correctly you may
need to use a different web browser).

Below is a summary of the main features of the online learning platform, as listed
in the tabs along the top of the page:

Course This tab contains all of your course materials, including a course introduction. You
are advised to read the course summary and watch the welcome video before
attempting any of the modules, as it will give you a broad overview of what the
course is about, how it will benefit you and what is expected of you as a student.

In the introduction section you will also find some information on navigating the
edX edge platform.

This tab enables you to set your preferences for receiving discussion forum
Discussion updates, and provides a shortcut to participate in discussion forums. Direct links
are also featured in each module.

Updates Each week an announcement will be posted on edX. To see the announcements,
click on ‘Updates’ under Course Tools on the right hand side of your screen.

Other things to note about your edX edge online learning platform
In the top right corner of your edX edge online learning platform you will find a link to your home
page (Dashboard) and a drop down menu to Account Settings, My Profile and Sign Out. Use this link
to return to your home screen, edit your basic information and create your edX edge User Profile.

Home This button will take you back to your Dashboard – the front page of your edX
Button edge online learning platform – which displays all of the courses you are currently
enrolled in.

Account Go to this page to view and edit the account information you submitted when
Settings setting up your edX edge account. Here you can also specify additional
information and see your linked social accounts.

My Profile Go to this page to add a profile picture, tell other users about yourself and control
whether others will see your full or limited user profile.

Sign Out Click on this link to sign out of edX edge.

NB: When signing in again (website link: https://edge.edx.org/login), remember

to use the same email address you used when you registered for an edX edge
account.
