Jan. 2019 EPM 611: Theories of Electrical Machines ‘Answer All Questions Time Allowed: 3 Hours The examination consists of Four questions in Three pages Question 1: (Marks 20% = 14 Marks) The two-axis model of a rotating electrical machine has two coils on d-axis as DS1 and DS2, and one coil on q-axis as QR. i. Write the voltage equation in its matrix for (3 Marks) Determine the power of the machine and identify its different components; copper losses, power stored, and output power. (3 Marks) ili, Determine the developed torque. (3 Marks) iv. Derive an expression for the energy stored in the magnetic field of the machine in terms of its currents and inductances. (3 Marks) v. Prove that the power stored term of (ii) is the rate of change of energy stored in magnetic field. (2 Marks) Question 2: (Marks 20% = 14 Marks) If [C] is the transformation or connection matrix from an old to a new set of variables, then: i. What are the conditions for [C] to be orthogonal? (2 Marks) ii. Write (without proof) the relations between the old variables V, | , Z., P and their corresponding new variables. (3 Marks) ii, Write (without proof) the orthogonal forms of [C4} and [C2]. which transform from (a,b,c) to (a,f,0) and from (a,f,0) to (d,q,0) sequence components respectively. (3 Marks) iv. Derive the orthogonal form of the symmetrical components transformation matrix [C3] which transforms from (2,80) to (+ ,0) Sequence components. (3 Marks) v. Derive the form of transformation matrix [F], which transforms from (+,-,0) to (f6,0) quantities, where [F] = [C3][C2}{C3}. (3 Marks) Question 3: (Marks 30% = 21 Marks) 2) Equation (1) shows the impedance matrix of the 2-phase induction machine in the 2-phase Holonomic reference frame, while equation (2) shows the impedance matrix of the 2-phase induction machine in the d- q reference frame fixed to the rotor. Write the necessary form of the transformation matrix, and then Carry out the necessary steps to derive Equation (2) from Equation (1).
