One of the most quoted verses of BG is 15.15 sloka

sarvasya cāhaṁ, in all living beings

hṛdi sanniviṣṭo, I am situated in heart

mattaḥ smṛtir jñānam apohanaṁ ca from Me comes three things

1. smṛtir (Remembrance) 2. Jñānam(Knowledge) 3. apohanaṁ (forgetfulness)

First part refers to Krishna’s indwelling presence and His action through
His indwelling presence.
e.g. Soul & supersoul in the same tree, Krishna’s presence in every living being
When Supersoul leaves, body gets heart attack. – HG SDP

Second part refers to His connection with the Vedas i.e.

vedaiś ca sarvair aham eva vedyo

By all the Vedas I am to be known,

vedānta-kṛd, I am the compiler of Vedanta (as Vyāsadeva) and therefore

veda-vid eva cāham, I am the knower of the Vedas (I know it).

The living entity forgets everything of his past life, but the

Supersoul, the witness of all his work, gives him remembrance and

required knowledge to start his deeds. Thus, the Lord is not only

all-pervading; He is also localized in everyone’s heart as Supersoul.

e.g. Jadurani mataji asked SP about Supersoul.

Sometimes we forget something which we wrote or spoke a year back but

Krishna is not like that He remembers everything. He is not under illusion so
He does not forget. E.g. Krishna gives faint memories of previous lives Ian Stev

So let us discuss these two units, their significance and their interconnection
from Prabhupāda’s lecture on BG 15.15 .

3
Knowledge given by Paramātmā from within the core of the heart
is explained by the modern scientist as intuition. They do not
know wherefrom the intuition is coming. And that is coming from
God. Therefore it is stated mattaḥ, from Me. There's another
principle called conscience (vivek) which means feeling that something is
right and something is wrong. That is also from Kṛṣṇa. Everything.

E.g. A small cub, dog, it has not opened the eyes, but still, immediately after
birth, it is seeking the nipples of the mother. So wherefrom the knowledge
comes? From God.

Vedas means literature provided to teach how to make best use of this
human body. (athato brahma Jigyasa) E.g. Just like this dictaphone
machine is manufactured along with it user manual is also provided.

4
So customers, they are given the delivery of the machine as well as the user
manual how to use it. That is the Vedas.

Therefore Kṛṣṇa says that vedānta-kṛt, "I am the compiler of the Vedas."
Because if He does not give the literature, then how you will use the
machine. The manufacturer of the machine, he knows how to use it, what
for it is, how to manipulate it.

Everything is there available in the form of Vedic knowledge means Vedas.

Just like we have purchased this machine for some enjoyment, similarly, we
are fallen down to this material world for some material pleasure.
So Kṛṣṇa has given the Vedic literatures in the form of R, M, SB, CC etc.

If you'll be guided by the literature, then, your propensity to enjoy this

material world, will be fulfilled, at the same time you'll again be able to go
back home, back to Godhead. Vedas gives you knowledge about your
relationship with God. That is the first knowledge (SAMBANDH).

So if you take instruction from the Vedas then you'll understand that my
present conditions of life are not very pleasing. So we have to make
progress in a different way. And then, according to that knowledge, if you
act, then you are rightly situated in going BTG.

The difficulty is when a person is missing the aim of life, his energy is
diverted in different misleading ways. Just like for our bodily necessities of
life we require to eat, we require to sleep, we require some sense pleasure
or mating, and we require some defense. So everything is arranged, you eat,
you sleep, you have wife and properly defend yourself, but this is not the
real business. Our main business is to realize God, our relationship with
God and living peacefully. That is the peace formula (5.29).
But because people are not educated to this business, we think that these
bodily necessities of life namely eating, sleeping, sex and defense, that is my
only business.

So long you'll seek your own pleasure, you'll suffer. but when you'll seek
Kṛṣṇa's pleasure, you'll enjoy. The example is given: Just like you catch up
some sweetmeat, the fingers. If the fingers say, "We shall enjoy it," you
5
spoil it. But if the fingers put it to mouth, then you'll enjoy it. Unless you
know this art, then we cannot enjoy independently, that is not possible. If
we enjoy through Kṛṣṇa, Kṛṣṇa's prasādam, then we'll be happy. This is
Kṛṣṇa consciousness. Directly you cannot enjoy, that is not possible.
And if you satisfy the senses of Kṛṣṇa, through Kṛṣṇa you satisfy yourself.
The fingers cannot directly enjoy the sweet ball, but when the sweet ball is
put into the stomach, these five fingers enjoy, whole body will enjoy.

In a case of difficulty, what should we do?

You should be patient. Utsāhān dhairyāt. Dhairya means patience. Just
like a girl is married and she wants a son. You cannot expect, today is
marriage, and tomorrow child. That is not possible. You have to wait.
What Kṛṣṇa says, we have to execute that. We should not manufacture our
own ideas. That is not service. Service means you must take order from the
master. That is service. Otherwise it is mental concoction. E.g. milk & water
If you are actually sincere, the correct intuition will come. BG 10.1O
Buddhi-yogaṁ dadāmi taṁ yena mām upayānti, if it is for Kṛṣṇa's
purpose, then He'll give you intelligence, "Do like this." Thank you very much.
The most important service The most important service for a devotee is to very
attentively chant 16 rounds everyday and 25 rounds on Ekadasi and special days. The
more attentively you chant, the sooner you will be able to resist maya and experience
the love of Godhead. Vyasa Puja Lecture
