What you will learn:

Okuden (Inner Teaching) is intended for Teacher candidates and/or Reiki

practitioners who want to deepen an understanding of Reiki Ryoho and develop

the inner growth. You will explore the inner teaching of Reiki Ryoho and begin

to tread on a spiritual path to “Anshin ritsumei” or Satori (enlightenment).

You will be given the fourth shirushi or symbol after receiving Reiju

(initiation/attunement). You will learn how to use the fourth shirushi (symbol).

What is the Fourth Shirushi or Symbol?

The fourth shirushi (symbol) connotes “The Universe”, “Higher Self”, “One

Great”, or “Enlightenment”, and the symbol will help you reconnect with the

universe and be reminded that you are always at ONE with the universe, that

you are the universe with unlimited wisdom and power to make anything happen,

and that you are a creator and/or a god. This reconnection or becoming one

with the universe will bless you with a secured and happy life, a spiritual

awakening, an expansion of consciousness, a deeper inner peace, a profound

loving – kindness, an increase of intuition, and the like.

How to utilize the FOURTH SHIRUSHI or SYMBOL:

< Before and after Reiki session >–

Before you do Reiki on yourself or others draw the 4th shirushi and bathe

in it. The 4th shirushi can be utilized before and after meditation or Qi-

Gong exercise, etc.

< A start of a new day and the end of the day >–

Start a new day and end the day by drawing the 4th shirushi. You will be

guided all day by REIKI or the Universe. You can utilize the 4th shirushi

before and after work, a business meeting, new contacts, performances,

exams, and the like.

< A trouble–shooter >–

When your problem seems beyond your power and/or human intelligence,

you can leave it in the good hands of the 4th shirushi or the Universe and

ask for a guide. An answer (solution) shall be given to you via a diversity of

methods; probably by means of intuition, dreams, books, other’ utterances,

and/or symbolic incident.

 The fourth Shirushi (symbol) shall be handed to a student

personally by the Teacher.

【 REIKI SYMBOLS 】

 The Reiki symbol (DKM) serves s as a catalyst or a tool for inner awakening

and reconnection to the Source.

 With enough practice you become symbols yourself and evolve past or

transcend the need for external support or help. Then, you will be able to

let go of all the Reiki symbols.

 Reiki Notes for OKUDEN

Usui Sensei, the founder of Usui Reiki Ryoho, says;

“Firstly the mind must be healed, and secondly the body must be made sound.

If the mind is healthy, conforming to a path of integrity, then the body

becomes sturdy of its own accord.”

Usui Mikao (1865 – 1926)

Plato, Greek philosopher, says;

“If you want to heal the body, you must first heal the mind.”

Plato (427 – 347 B.C.)

Hyakuten says;

“A cup of tea, a cup of enlightenment.”

The meaning of “ HONJA ZE SHONEN “

[ 本 者 是 正 念 ]

本者 (Honja) … the source

是 (Ze) … is

正念 (Shonen) … right consciousness (right mind)

Thus, the meaning is …

“The source (of everything) is the right consciousness”.

Your mind creates everything whatsoever. You are a creator.

Pure (right) consciousness of humans is equal in quality to cosmic consciousness

that possesses unlimited wisdom and power. Creation and evolution is the

function of the cosmic consciousness.

A constant flux and change is the law of the universe.

The universe itself and everything whatsoever in the universe are being

maintained by subtle, delicate and dynamic equilibrium.

Balance or harmony is the law of the universe.

The Buddha (the Enlightened One) says;

“Everything whatsoever has the mind as the source. The mind is the master

builder, and of the mind is everything made.

If with an impure mind one speaks or acts, suffering follows him in the same

way as the wheel follows the ox that draws the cart.”

“Everything whatsoever has the mind as the source. The mind is the master

builder, and of the mind is everything made.

If with a pure mind one speaks or acts, happiness follows him like his shadow

that never leaves him.”

The meaning of “ DAI KOMYO “ [ 大 光 明 ]

大 DAI … Great

光明 KOMYO …Light (Bright Light)

The literal meaning is … The Great Bright Light.

However, “DAI” connotes “extraordinary” and/or “transcendental”.

Thus, the meaning is … The Extraordinary and Transcendental Great Light.

“Dai Komyo” represents the light of pure cosmic consciousness, i.e., the energy

of Love, Harmony and Power (to heal) of the Universe, or Higher Self, the

Source, One Great, or whatever name you call it, and in a religious sense, it

represents Satori, or Enlightenment(illumination).

<Note> When “Honja Ze Shonen” and “Dai Komyo” are used as Reiki Symbols

they have nothing to do with the meaning, but have much to do with their

shapes(forms).

【 REIKI LINEAGE 】

Reiki lineage (energy lineage) is a very important part of Reiki system, but it is

not everything.

 Neither of these is better or worse than the other. Neither is “stronger”

or “weaker”. Neither is “more advanced or less advanced.”

 By lineage a Reiki practitioner is not noble. By lineage a Reiki practitioner

is not superior. By lineage a Reiki practitioner is not ignoble. By lineage a

Reiki practitioner is not inferior.

 By deed a Reiki practitioner is noble. By deed a Reiki practitioner is

superior. By deed a Reiki practitioner is ignoble. By deed a Reiki

practitioner is inferior.

 Your Reiki lineage does not make a good practitioner or a Teacher.

“Clothes do not make the man,” as the saying goes.

 Deeds are the criteria of a good Reiki practitioner and a good Teacher.

Your mental, verbal and bodily deeds, i.e., what you think, what you speak

and what you do are of the greatest importance.

【 REIKI RYOHO (Healing Art) 】

 The simplicity of Reiki Ryoho (healing art) is not as simple as first appears.

 seems very simple, and later on it will unfold to be very profound. Reiki

Ryoho has two aspects: one is therapeutic and another is spiritual. Reiki

Ryoho is both a healing art and a spiritual practice.

 Having Reiju (attunement) turns your consciousness to the innate gift, i.e.

the power to heal of your hands and once you have it turned on, it is yours

forever.

 Reiki Ryoho Degree (Level)

It is not that one degree is more powerful or more advanced than another.

They have specific purposes:

Wait until you have a feeling inside. The time is then right for you to go

one step further to the next level, and gradually and finally to the

teaching level.)

One begins with self, progresses to one’s family, friends and community,

further to one’s species and even further yet to all beings.

 Shoden (1st degree) Key words: - self healing – me first – good health.

The focus is on a therapeutic practice of Reiki Ryoho.

The aim is to live a healthy life.

 Chuden (2nd degree) Key words: – practitioner (healing others) – you and

I – good health.

The focus is on a therapeutic practice.

The aim is to live a healthy life.

 Shoden/Chuden practitioners do Reiki healing by means of physical hands.

 Okuden (3rd degree) Key words: – The doorway to a spiritual path. Inner

Teaching (spiritual cultivation and upliftment) - Peace and prosperity.

The focus is on a spiritual practice of Reiki Ryoho, i.e. one’s spiritual

cultivation and upliftment.

It is to live by the teachings of Usui Sensei that is to say “Reiki Principles”.

It is the doorway to a new and deeper way of life to transcend the world of

duality, the world of the pairs of opposites.

The aim is to live a healthy, peaceful and prosperous life, i.e. to live a happy

life.

 Shinpiden (Teacher’s degree) Key words: - “Anshin Ritsumei” or inner

peace – Genuine happiness. – Sharing the Way - Peace and prosperity.

The focus is on a spiritual practice, i.e. the realization of “Anshin Ritsumei”

or enlightenment (genuine happiness).

The aim is to live a life of genuine happiness.

 Okuden/Shinpiden practitioners do Reiki healing by means of spiritual

hands.

【 REIKI RYOHO PRACTICE 】

 Whatever Reiki system (style) you favor and practice, if it works for you,

then that’s yours to work with.

 Daily Reiki Ryoho practice and Gassho meditation do raise your energy

level.

 Reiki Ryoho practice is a way of making us more peaceful, balanced and

centered in our daily lives.

 There is no place for ego with Reiki Ryoho practice. Reiki works best when

you put aside your ego.

 Non-thinking is very effective, and non-doing is the ultimate in healing.

"Always a sunrise". Hope this beautiful poem inspires you throughout the day.

Look out, look in. Every day has a sunrise. Wherever you are, like a magic circle,

the world is all around you. Everything has a purpose. Every action a reaction.

All around you there are happenings.

People, places and ideas, all offering you opportunities. Some to be touched and

changed by the very nature of your uniqueness. Others to be left alone for

they are not worthy of you. Life is a love affair. Love the people around you,

love what you do.

Every day dawns with a sunrise. Always, High days and low days. Blue skies of

pleasure, there to enjoy. Celebrate. Dark clouds of storming hurt, however

black, they always pass. Today was yesterday’s tomorrow; yesterday is gone.

History. And the wonder of yesterday is whatever we didn’t like is behind us.

Make a change. Unlimited you. Greatness from within.

There is no such thing as failure, only learning experiences. Some things are

easy to learn, others hard. What is easy for one may be hard for another.

Lessons to be learned, not burdens to be carried. Everyone is different.

Everyone is special. We are all creative. We are all tool makers.

Greatness and humility. Both are you. Leader and follower. Warrior and water

carrier. Teacher and student. Champion and cheerleader. Who is to say? One

day you are one, the next day you are the other. Pace setters tread the

untrodden path. Never given away your sunrise day of action to an excuse.

'When the time is right.' 'When I feel like it.' 'When I've enough money.'

Sometimes it’s too easy to justify not taking action. Sometimes you have to say

'no' to your inner voice when it tries to keep you too comfortably where you're

at. Always a new light. Always a new day. Each day a gift of opportunity. There

is always a sunrise even when it is far from our view.

There is always a door. We simply have to seek. There is always a key. We

simply have to persist. And, sometimes, we just have to wait a while. Patience

does have virtue. There is always a future. The future is hope and the magic is

faith.

It begins with you today. Today a new day. Always. Today our decision to be

the person we really want to be. Today our choice of courage to accept what

we cannot change. Today our choice to rise to the challenge of changing what

we must. These are the choices of happiness.

Always an answer. You simply have to believe. The dawn. The magic of a new

day given to us. A love affair. A love affair with today. Today, a gift of

opportunity; to laugh; to learn; to achieve; to make someone happy, to be happy.

REIKI Notes:

 Anshin Ritsumei or Satori (enlightenment) is to stay free, calm, peaceful

and quiet.

 How can one attain Anshin Ritsumei or Satori? Non-attachment (non-

clinging) is the answer.

 Satori is genuine happiness.

 涅槃・寂静 quietude (quietness and calm)

 After a storm comes a calm.

 Let go of human power which is weak and limited. Surrender to the

unlimited power of the universe.

 Okuden is a doorway to a spiritual practice. We begin to walk up on a

spiritual path to the ultimate goal of Anshin Ritsumei, i.e., genuine happiness

that is the purpose of life.

 Reiki is a non-dualistic (monadic) healing energy.

 With Reiki all things are good and perfect. It rises above the world of

the pairs of opposites.

 Reiki works for the greatest good of all beings.

 Reiki Ryoho is sufficient unto itself, perfect unto itself. It doesn’t need

other things.

 One attractive aspect of Reiki Ryoho is its democratic approach. There is

no dependence on teachers, masters, gurus or other authority figures. Its

practice is based on loving-kindness and harmony, and the actual method of

practice is easy to begin.

 To perfect oneself is good, to advance thence to perfect others is great;

yet to advance to cojoin in the perfection of all beings is even greater.

 With the universe all things are possible. If you connect to the

consciousness of the universe, then all things are possible to you.

 In the Bible the Apostle John says, “Beloved, I wish above all things that

thou mayest prosper and be in health, even as thy soul prospereth.”

 A secret of good health and prosperity is that one always lets go and never

dams up the flow of one’s energy.

 Let go and it is given, cling (get attached) and it is gone.

 Reiki Ryoho (healing art) is the art of surrendering, and it is the practice

of letting go or giving.

 By letting go of an attachment to your ego, you can be calm and peaceful,

and you won’t get hurt by anything. Even if you suffer, you can deal more

easily and lightly with your emotions in a proper way.

 When one continually takes in and never gives out, it is a symbol of

stagnation and of death because there is no flow, no movement and there

is no change.
