Once you have done this, try to role-play the scenario so that you
can see the impact of the conversation on each person.

Kiera and Sam are talking in the playground. They are both excited to tell each other
what they are going to do in the school holidays.

Kiera: I can’t wait for the holidays, I am going to stay with my grandma.

Sam: Yes, I am going to stay at my grandma’s too. I am...

Kiera: Yeah, so, I am going to my grandma’s. I am going to go shopping, to the cinema,

to the park...

Sam: ...going camping in...

Kiera: The park is brilliant, it has a zip wire, a tyre circuit and a spiral slide. I
always go to...

Sam: ...a campsite. It is about an hour away and it is on a big farm with loads of
animals that you can feed. I love feeding the...

Kiera: ...the ice-cream shop after and we get ice cream with sprinkles and flakes.

Questions:

Do you think Kiera and Sam are good at listening to each other?

How are they showing poor listening skills?

Do you think they would be able to answer any questions about what the other person is
going to do in the holidays?

How could they improve their listening skills?

Write three ways that you can show good listening. For example, I will let the person talking
finish before I start.
