A Gaffer is responsible for running the Grip/Electric crew and overseeing all the lighting

equipment. Many gaffers start in an entry-level position on a lighting crew.

A best boy is the first assistant to the grip crew or the lighting department. A person
aspiring to become a Best Boy will start out in a more entry role such as an intern or
Production Assistant within the electrical department to learn how that department
functions.

A lighting technician Set up, maintain, and dismantle light fixtures, lighting control
devices, and the associated lighting electrical and rigging equipment used for
photography, television, film, video, and live productions.

The lighting technicians on a film set handle all of the electrical needs as well as place
and focus all of the lighting under the direction of the gaffer.

A console operator prepares the electronic data processor and its peripheral for
program processing.

The Generator Operator maintains the functioning of the generators typically used on
film location, particularly in remote areas or where extra power is needed.

Lamp Operator is in charge of the lighting equipment. He or She starts by unloading the
lighting equipment from the trucks. When necessary, Lamp Operators may be required
to run cables, and distribution to power the lights.

The Electrician is responsible for looking after the electrical lighting equipment both on a
film set and on location.
