There has been an unprecedented increase in the amount of taxi fare indicated on the
expense accounts of our business travelers. To help keep costs under control, please
remember the following guidelines when using a taxi in an unfamiliar city.

Be sure that the meter is turned on after, not before, you sit down in the taxi. Request
that the driver take the most direct route to your destination. Establish an approximate
fare to your destination before the driver moves the taxi. Always ask the taxi driver for a

Questions 151 through 154 refer to the following article.

Companies that are looking to establish a new headquarters or other facility must
consider location very carefully. The match, or lack of it, between the company's
requirements and the available human and natural resources in the area can be crucial.
A company's future growth and prosperity depends on a successful match of needs and
resources.

Different companies, of course, have different needs. Some are looking for a good
climate and sound infrastructure, like public transportation, schools, and other facilities
for their employees. Others are seeking to find affordable office space and a large
workforce. Still others want a low cost of living and access to cultural or outdoor
activities to keep their employees happy. But the one common denominator must be a
pro-business attitude in the community. If the citizens do not want commercial
enterprises in their neighborhood, a company should consider another location.

Questions 159 through 162 refer to the following article.

Most people give little thought to the pens they write with, especially since the printers in
modern homes and offices mean that very few items are handwritten. All too often,
people buy a pen based only on looks and wonder why they are not satisfied once they
begin to use it. However, buying a pen that you will enjoy is not difficult if you keep a
few simple tips in mind. First of all, a pen should fit comfortably in your hand and be
easy to manipulate. The thickness of the pen is the most important characteristic when
determining comfort. If you have a small hand and thick fingers, you may be
comfortable with a slender pen. If you have a larger hand and thicker fingers, you may
prefer a fatter pen. The length of a pen can also influence comfort. A pen that is too long
can easily feel top-heavy and unstable as you write. Next, the writing point of the pen
(called a nib on fountain pens) should allow the ink to flow evenly while the pen remains
in contact with the paper. This will create a smooth line of writing, with no skips or gaps
that indicate an irregular flow of ink within the pen. The point should also be sensitive
enough to prevent ink from flowing when the pen is lifted from the paper. A point that
does not seal off the flow may leave blots of ink at the end and beginning of each word,
as you pick the pen up and put it down again. Finally, the pen should make a bold, dark
line. Fine-line pens may compensate for bad handwriting, but fine, delicate lines do not
command attention next to printed text, as, for example, a signature on a printed letter.
A broader line, by contrast, gives an impression of confidence and authority.
Question n°159
What does this article encourage people to do?
A. Write more legibly
B. Purchase better printers
C. Write more things by hand
D. Pay more attention to their pens
Question n°160
What is the most important characteristic to consider when determining the comfort of a
pen?
A. Thickness
B. Length
C. Weight
D. Size
Question n°161
What might an irregular flow of ink cause?
A. Smears
B. Skips
C. Blots
D. Smudges
Question n°162
What is an advantage of fine-line pens?
A. They are easier to write with.
B. They convey confidence and authority.
C. They can compensate for bad handwriting.
D. They command attention.

Hi Paul,

I just received the itinerary. Thanks for getting me a room at the Hotel Hacienda. I
know how difficult it can be to book rooms there. It's such a popular place. Last time, I
had to stay at the Woodrow Suites, and it was very inconvenient. I need to make one
change to the itinerary. I have a meeting in San Francisco at 5:00 on the day of my
arrival, so I really think I should arrive at least an hour and a half earlier than you have
me scheduled for. So please see if you can get me on the next earlier flight.

Also, I would like to stay one more day in LA. My work will be done, but I have
friends there I would like to visit. So I guess you'll have to change my flight back and
reserve my room for another night at the hotel. I appreciate it. Also, please don't forget
that Mr. Young Kim from the Seoul office will be here the day after I return from Los
Angeles. Please get him a room at the Radcliff Inn for two nights, and arrange a car for
him, too.

Development Proposal Accepted

The City Planning Board voted yesterday to approve the proposal by the Da Nang
Development Corporation to revitalize the downtown business district. This proposal has
been the subject of a great deal of controversy over the past several years. "Despite the great
disagreement the original proposals excited, I feel we have finally come to a decision that
everyone can be happy with," said Bich Anh, a long-time member of the Planning Board.
According to Ms. Anh, once the revitalization of the district is completed, more customers
will be attracted to downtown stores and higher-paying tenants will occupy the office
buildings. "It's a win-win situation," she says. "We will have better places to shop, and
retailers and landlords will be able to earn higher profits."

To the editor,

As a concerned citizen, it was with great dismay that I read in yesterday's City Times about
the approval of the proposal by the Da Nang Development Corporation to revitalize the
downtown business district. While I agree that the business district is in desperate need of
revitalization, I cannot agree that the proposal of the Da Nang Development Corporation is
the best route to take. We have only to look at other examples of its work to understand that
this company cares little for anything but profit. The Riverside Shopping Mall, Da Nang's
most recent project which opened last October 12, is just one example. It is a terrible
eyesore. Our downtown has several beautiful old buildings which the Da Nang Corporation
proposes to destroy and replace with modern concrete and steel. This will not be a benefit to
anyone. I suggest that the City Planning Board seek another development company for this
job, one that is willing to preserve historic buildings. This has been done successfully in
other cities, which we should look to as examples.

Sincerely yours,

Nguyen Duc Anh

Energy Efficiency Audit Overview: Sternberg Manufacturing

Conducted by Mistral Energy Service (MES), September 4

An energy efficiency audit was carried out by the MES team at the Sternberg Manufacturing
site in Bedford. This site was chosen among Sternberg’s thirteen facilities throughout the
country because it was the first factory building for Sternberg Manufacturing, so it has the
most opportunities for improvement.

Four areas of improvement were identified. First, solar panels from Percales Co. should be
added to sections of the rooftop to generate sustainable energy that could be either used on
site or sold back to the grid. Second, the packaging equipment should be replaced with
energy-efficient machines designed by Forsyth, Inc. Third, skylights should be installed by
Verne Enterprises to provide free natural light. Fourth, the exterior walls should be insulated
by Webster Construction to reduce heat loss.

Employees should also undergo training to learn about ways they can contribute to a
reduction in energy usage.

Subject: Upcoming training

Dear Ms. Lyon,

I have reviewed the training proposals presented by the various shift managers, and I
believe that your training would be the most suitable for the company needs. The handouts
you prepared highlight the goals clearly, and they will help employees to see exactly what
needs to be done. We’ve tried other initiatives for energy conservation in the past, but
despite these measures, we still hold steady at 21%, which is well above the industry
average. By working together, I hope we can reduce this figure.

Sincerely,

Mitchell Thorpe

New Energy Conservation Efforts Underway

Sternberg Manufacturing is seeking to reduce its energy usage both to cut overhead
expenses and to reduce the company’s environmental impact. Based on recommendations

Construction in November. The others will follow next year, as funding allows. In addition,
