Jingyi has unveiled its in-
tentions to set up an EV manufac-
turing plant in Pakistan, alongside
the establishment of showrooms in
major cities across the nation.
This significant announcement
came to light during a meeting
between a delegation from Xin-
jian Jingyi Cheng Group, led by
Assistant Chairman GU
Xongquan, and FPCCI Vice Pres-
ident Amin Ullah Baig. GU
Xongquan emphasized that the
company’s decision to enter the
Pakistani market, and its subse-
quent plans for manufacturing
and showroom facilities, are inte-
gral components of their long-
term business strategy.
GU Xongquan underscored the
significance of this move by high-
lighting that automobiles serve
as the primary mode of trans-
portation in Pakistan. He also
noted that the escalating global
oil prices have led to a substan-
tial surge in gasoline costs. Con-
sequently, this has made it

MD NTDC
Inaugurates
transmission line
monitoring system
application
T
he Managing Director of the National
Transmission and Despatch Company
Limited (NTDC), Engr Rana Abdul Jabbar
Khan inaugurated the transmission line moni-
toring system application at a recent gathering
of engineers from asset management (North) at
Wapda House. The MD stressed the immediate
need for monitoring aging transmission lines
and the development of effective remedial strate-
gies to address potential issues promptly.
The meeting provided an opportunity to re-
view the progress of various ongoing projects, in-
cluding the pilot project for inspecting
transmission lines using quadcopters and
drones. Additionally, digitalization of utilities,
substation automation, transmission line moni-
toring systems, and dissolved gas analysis were
discussed. Engr Rana Abdul Jabbar Khan com-
mended the teams involved for their successful
implementation of in-house dissolved gas analy-

ses and directed for its expansion nationwide

across NTDC installations, highlighting the cost-
saving benefits. To further enhance the online
monitoring of transmission lines, the Managing
Director authorized the purchase of three addi-
tional quadcopters and the initiation of thermo-
vision monitoring for grid stations.
As part of a broader strategy, the MD directed
live line training sessions to be conducted at
Faisalabad, Rawat, and Jamshoro in the upcom-
ing weeks. He also instructed the initiation of
substation automation system program training
at the 500 kV New Lahore and 220 kV Gujrat
grid stations, in addition to the TSG Training
Center Lahore.
During the meeting MD NTDC directed the
department to work proactively and start work-
ing on the critical tasks such as washing, insu-
lator replacement, and other maintenance
activities, all to be completed before the onset of
the foggy and winter season. This proactive ap-
proach aims to ensure a seamless power supply
during challenging weather conditions.

with time, survival instincts have
kicked in and people have found solu-
tions." Acknowledging a temporary
decline in sales, Mr. Shahzad exuded
confidence in resurgence. During the
conversation when asked about their
core brand Hyundai, Mr. Shahzad
shed light on Hyundai's transforma-
tive journey from its initial base in
China to the current production of
diesel generators in Korea, boasting
technically advanced engines.
“Hyundai generators from Korea are
much more advanced and offer excep-
tional value for money, aligning with
consumers' purchasing power,” he ex-
plained
In response to a shifting trend to-
wards solar power, Mr. Shahzad re-
vealed a strategic shift in the
company's focus, aligning with the
greener and sustainable energy land-
scape. “Enpower Engineering has
completed the test phase for Solar in-
stalments and will now be moving to-
wards full fledge Solar installations in
parallel with the diesel generator
business,” he revealed. Enpower Engi-
neering anticipates a gradual transi-
tion where diesel generators will
primarily serve remote and emergency
situations, while solar power gains
prominence. He acknowledged that
while expertise in solar power is less
readily available, mechanics for gen-
erators are more accessible, signifying
a gradual shift in the industry.

Khan- Sagu section of N-50 was also
done during the same period.
Moreover, the construction work
on the 298 km Zhob to Kuchlak road
was in progress. Also, other projects
such as Khuzdar-Basima (110 km),
Nokundi-Mashkhel (103 km), and
Hoshab -Awaran M8 (146 km) were
under implementation and were
likely to be completed according to
the timeline. Furthermore, Sagu-
Zhob project N-50 was under dis-
cussion with the Chinese side and
was expected to be started soon.
Due to the construction of Dasu
and Basha dams, the existing
Karakoram Highway (KKH) align-
ment will be submerged, therefore,
and Joint Technical Group was no-
tified to conduct the feasibility for
realignment of Thakot-Raikot sec-
tion of the KKH which has since al-
ready been conducted and agreed by
both the both sides.
Moreover, the concessional fi-
nancing agreement for Pakistan
Railways Main Line (ML-1) mega
project was expected to be finalized
soon and subsequently, arrange-

ments will be made for its ground-
breaking..
IN addition to this, the frame-
work agreement of Karachi Circular
Railway (KCR) has also been
shared with the Chinese side for
taking up the project under CPEC
framework..
Lastly, the feasibility studies of
the following new projects have
been proposed for consideration
under the CPEC framework in the
Joint Working Group meeting of
transport infrastructure : Mirpur-
Muzaffarabad-Mansehra
(MMM),M-9 Motorway and Babusar
Tunnel.

A look at Textiles and Apparel sector export

extiles and apparel sector oc-
cupies a pivotal position in in
Pakistan's economy having
most intensive backward and for-
ward linkages compared to any
other sector. It contributes approxi-
mately 60 per cent in total exports
and 40 per cent in industrial em-
ployment. Pakistan is the fifth
largest cotton producing country
with tremendous potential for fur-
ther improvement in its share in the
world.
According to available figures
during July-March FY2023, exports
of textile group witnessed a decline
of 12.4 per cent and reached US $
12.5 billion compared to US $ 14.2
during the corresponding period.
Textile sector faced multiple is-
sues including energy shortages,
high electricity tariffs, elevated fi-
nancing costs, and global slowdown.

policy in China was providing more
opportunity for other economies to
seize the exports share. Bangladesh
grabbed this opportunity with both
hands. However, in Pakistan the do-
mestic economic issues were creat-
ing in exploiting this opportunity.
The other problem was of the turn-
around time of exports. Raw mate-
rial was being imported, processed
and re-exported. The turnaround
time in Pakistan was 5 to 6 months
higher than in Bangladesh which
was just 1 to 2 months.
According to U.S. Agriculture De-
partment 's "Cotton: World Markets
and Trade " report, the global cotton
production in 2022-23 was up to
116.5 million cotton bales and this
has been attributed to higher pro-
duction in China, Mexico, and
Uzbekistan. Consumption was low-
ered more than 500,000 bales to
109.6 million and this was attrib-
uted to lower use in Bangladesh.

tively during the same period i.e.
July 2022-March 2023.

Trina Solar Announces Mass Production of Vertex N

Three gas supply schemes to Special Economic Zones completed

Sui Northern Gas Pipeline Limited (SNGPL)
has completed the project for supply of gas to Al-
lama Iqbal Industrial City Special Economic Zone
Faisalabad in Punjab province.
Sui Southern Gas Company Limited (SSGCL)
has completed provision of supply of gas to two
SEZs located in its domain.
Project for supplying 13 MMCFD to Bin Qasim
Industrial Park Karachi, Sindh Province, has been
completed at a cost of Rs 149.41 million.
For supplying 10 MMCFD gas to Bostan Special
Economic Zone, Quetta, Balochitan province con-
struction of an 8.7 km pipeline has also been com-
pleted within the stipulated period.

An Overall look
at China-Pakistan
Economic Corridor

he China-Pakistan Economic
T Corridor (CPEC) is a long
term program between
China and Pakistan. It aims to act
as a "Gateway of Prosperity " for
both the countries and the region
at large. The CPEC is focused to
facilitate industrialization, trade
and market access, integration
with global value chains, socio-eco-
nomic development and poverty al-
leviation, agriculture
modernization, Gwadar Oil City
and blue economy, regional connec-
tivity, and third -party participa-
tion. Moreover, the focus has since
been extended to also include coop-
eration in Science and Information
Technology in the overall CPEC
framework.
The CPEC would connect
Gwadar port in the southwest of
Pakistan to China's northwestern
region of Xinjiang via a network of
highways and railways, covering
the entire country from North to
South through three different
alignments: Eastern, Western and
Central alignments. Road infra-
structure on the Eastern Align-
ment is complete except the
Sukkur-Hyderabad section which
was under construction. On the
Western Alignment, Dera Ismail
Khan-Zhob road has been con-
ceived. The remaining projects on

the alignment have either been
completed or at varying stages of
their implementation. The Central
Alignment was expected to start in
the third phase of CPEC.
In the first phase of the imple-
mentation of CPEC, priority was
given to development prerequisites
of CPEC to initiate economic activ-
ities. Investments under CPEC in
infrastructure and energy sectors,
through the implementation of
early harvest projects, have filled
in the voids and accelerated the
pace of economic growth of the
country which will ultimately pro-
vide a momentous boost to the
economy of Pakistan.
In order to realize the vision of
CPEC in letter and spirit, CPEC
now emphasizes areas which con-
tribute to the socio-economic up-
lift of the people of Pakistan.
Industrialization and Agriculture
Modernization are the preferred
areas to bing employment, en-
hance trade and earn foreign ex-
change. Science and Technology
cooperation has also been de-
signed with an emphasis on tech-
nology up-gradation and transfer
to support the development
process under CPEC.
