Nora Grey
London, England

We have a big family reunion every four years with our extended family.
In 2019, we had over two hundred family members attend! People
came by plane, bus, and train from England and other countries. Aunt
Claudia came all the way from Panama! We always meet at my Uncle’s
house in the countryside. His house is really large and there's a lake.
We eat lots of food and talk for hours and hours. The kids play and go
swimming, and the adults drink lots of wine and beer!

Juan Diego Perez

Medellin, Colombia

We come together as a family every year for my

great-grandmother’s birthday. Last year she turned 96
years old! She has eight children, 36 grandchildren, and 17
great-grandchildren. We are a very big family! We have the
party at my great-grandmother’s house and we usually
have a band. We dance and eat, and it’s a very happy
occasion! My great-grandmother loves celebrating with
the entire family and seeing all the children!

Cole Howard
Tampa, Florida

Every two or three years my family has a reunion on the beach. We

usually rent a big house. Last year there were 26 of us including my
brother’s girlfriend. He proposed to her at sunset. It was very exciting!
Soon she'll be my sister-in-law. We like to play lots of card games, go
for long walks on the beach, and cook! Every year we compete to see
who can prepare the most delicious barbecue. My cousin Josh
usually wins.

ALTERNATIVE SPRING BREAK
Many universities in the United States have one free week with no classes in March or April called
“Spring Break.” It’s a time for students to relax and most students travel to the beach and have parties!
Other students choose to use this week to do community service.

Join us to help care for our furry friends at “Four Legs Rescue.” We always need
volunteers to help clean kennels, give dogs baths, and take dogs for walks. We’re
having an adoption fair on Saturday April 13th and Saturday April 20th. We need
volunteers to help with adoption paperwork. The fairs begin at 8:00AM and end at

The Summerhill Assisted Living Center needs volunteers! Volunteers spend time with
our residents and accompany them during their weekly activities. This can
include using the computer, playing games, watching TV, taking a walk in the garden,

the swimming class is on April 10th at 3:00PM. Also, we’re having a party on April
25th and we need a DJ! Can you help? Come visit, chat, and smile! All ages welcome.

Help clean up our beaches and keep plastic and other harmful garbage out of our
oceans. We’re having a beach clean up event in 8 different cities this month on April
15th. Grab a bag, bring a friend, and collect as much garbage as possible. The next

Hello. We are Bob and Jan Rosenstock. We want to take a trip around Europe to celebrate our 50th
wedding anniversary! We are looking for a good tour company that specializes in custom trips for
seniors. Do you recommend Silver Years Tours?

TRACY RUNDMAN
An e xc e l l e n t m i x o f a dv e n t u r e a n d r e l a x at i o n !
I loved my tour with Silver Years Tours. I traveled with them to South Africa in 2018. They created the perfect
balance of activities for adventure and relaxation. First, they picked us up from the airport and gave us a snack
and some water. Then, they took us to our hotel in a private bus. The next day, we had a city tour. The guide
was very prepared and spoke five languages! That night we had a very exotic dinner. We ate ostrich burgers!
The next day we went hiking and then got massages in the afternoon. The following day we went on a safari
and saw many beautiful animals. The elephants were my favorite. As a 67 year old woman, I felt very
comfortable with Silver Years Tours. They made sure the trip was fun and safe!

Never aga i n ! JIM AND BEATRICE JONES

We will never travel again with Silver Years Tours. This company is irresponsible! We booked our trip to Spain
with them in 2015. They were very disorganized. First, there was nobody at the airport to pick us up. We had to
take a taxi and the driver got lost. When we got to the hotel, we were not impressed. It was a party hostel! We
didn’t sleep very much. The next morning, we had an architectural tour. We enjoyed seeing the Sagrada Familia
church. It was impressive! Unfortunately, the tour guide didn’t know very much, and she wasn’t able to answer
our questions. My wife and I are 70 years old and we didn’t think the tours were appropriate for us. There was
too much physical activity, like walking up big hills and stairs. Don’t waste your precious money or time with
Silver Years Tours.

ELIZA PEREZ
G r e at t r i p , b u t too e x p e n s i v e !
I planned a trip to the Caribbean with Silver Years Tours in 2017 to celebrate my retirement. I didn’t want
anything too crazy, so I selected a cruise for seniors. It was really beautiful. We visited many different islands
and did a variety of activities. We went sightseeing, snorkeling, and shopping. On the boat there were other
activities, like dancing, swimming, and a movie theater. This was all good. I didn’t like my room on the cruise
ship, and the food was terrible. I paid a lot of money and expected nicer accommodations. Also, it was difficult to
communicate with Silver Years Tours. They plan good trips, but you pay a lot of money for it.

GROCERY SHOPPING AROUND THE WORLD
All countries in the world sell food, but not every country sells food in the same way.
Read about how these people buy food in their countries.

Lily Wang, Shanghai, China

I usually buy all my groceries online. I use an app and can select each product and the delivery date.
The groceries arrive to my house on the delivery day. Each product is packed carefully. For example,
there is a special carton for eggs, a cold bag for cold foods like dairy and meat, and a hot bag for hot
foods. It’s really convenient!

View

Paulo Oliveira, São Paulo , Brazil

I go shopping for groceries about once a week or maybe once every ten days. I can usually buy
everything I need at the big supermarket in town. I buy things like a kilo of rice, cans of tuna,
ketchup, and mayonnaise. I buy chicken at the supermarket, too. I buy sausage and beef from a
butcher, and I buy cookies by the dozen at the bakery in my neighborhood. Oh, and I buy dog food at
the veterinarian's office. They don’t usually sell dog food at the supermarket.

View

Dora Agnes, Athens, Greece

Here in Athens, I go to a big supermarket and I can buy everything in one place, but when I visit my
family in our village, I typically visit many stores to buy all my groceries. Every day there is a market
where you can buy fruits, vegetables, and other yummy things like cheese, olives, and honey. You
can’t buy a box of cookies or a can of tuna here, because we like having fresh food. Each vendor has
a different specialty. To buy meat, you have to go to a butcher. Every Tuesday the whole community
comes to buy meat from the butcher.

Andy Gonzalez, New York City, USA

I almost never cook so I don’t go shopping for groceries very often. I usually eat out or order food.
The whole neighborhood has lots of great restaurants to eat every type of food! You can eat curry,
pizza, tacos, pho, anything! When I do need something from the store, I walk to a corner shop to buy a
pack of cigarettes, a carton of milk, a roll of toilet paper, or a pack of cookies. It’s
convenient because these shops, called bodegas, are on every corner!
