XAT Syllabus PDF

The XAT Syllabus 2024 consists of five sections: Verbal Ability


and Reading Comprehension, Decision Making, Quantitative
Aptitude, General Awareness, and an Essay. The Verbal Ability,
Decision Making, and Quantitative Aptitude sections are
important for calculating the XAT percentile score and
determining the XLRI shortlisting criteria. However, the General
Awareness section's score is taken into account during the
personal interview round.

Most Important Sections in XAT 2024 Syllabus


The main sections of the XAT syllabus 2024 are Verbal Ability,
Reading Comprehension, Logical Reasoning, Decision Making,
and Quantitative Aptitude and Data Interpretation. Your percentile
and ranking will be determined based on your performance in these
sections.

The sections of General Knowledge (GK) and Essay in the XAT
syllabus 2024 do not have specific topics listed and do not
contribute to percentile calculation. The XAT syllabus includes all
the topics for the test sections mentioned above.

XAT 2024 Section-wise Topics

Section-1: Verbal Ability, Reading


Comprehension & Logical Reasoning

Section Highlights: The Verbal Ability, Reading


Comprehension, and Logical Reasoning section of the XAT
2024 syllabus is divided into three parts. The first part includes
questions on Verbal Ability, the second part focuses on
Reading Comprehension passages, and the third part covers
various topics on Logical Reasoning in the VARC & LR
section of the XAT 2024 exam.
Number of Questions: In the revised pattern of the XAT
exam curriculum for the VARC & LR section, there are 26
multiple-choice questions (MCQs) in this segment.

Part-1: Verbal Ability

● correct words; synonyms/antonyms; contextual usage
on vocabulary words
● Jumbled Paragraphs
● Correction of errors in sentences, correct use of words

Part-2: Reading Comprehension (RC)

● Share of Reading Comprehension in VARC & LR


section is very high
● Topics on which RC passages are based: Abstract topics,
Literature, Social and Economic issues; Science &
Culture; history & fiction among others.
● There is no clear-cut definition of RC topics in the XAT
exam syllabus. RC passage on any topic under the Sun
can be placed in the XAT exam.
● Type of RC passages: Moderate and short.
● A short Poem RC will also be included in this section.
● Type of Questions: All MCQ types.

Part-3: XAT Exam 2024 Syllabus for Logical Reasoning
(LR)

● Share of LR questions in XAT syllabus is not very high.


Usually, there are a few critical reasoning and a few
LR-based questions in the XAT exam. All questions are
of MCQ type.
● Topics covered in the XAT syllabus on which LR questions
are based: Analogy, Clocks, calendars, Fact, Inference,
Judgement, binary logic, seating arrangement, blood
relations, logical sequence, assumption, premise, and
conclusion, among others.
● XLRI entrance exam syllabus defines that questions on
Logical Reasoning cn be individual or can be in sets.

Section-2: Decision-Making

Section Highlights: The XAT syllabus for 2024 includes a


unique section on Decision Making, which sets it apart from
other national-level entrance tests like CAT. Decision Making is
not included in the exam sections of those tests.

Number of Questions: There are 21 questions in this section.

Section-3: Quantitative Ability & Data
Interpretation

Section Highlights: The XAT syllabus for Quantitative Ability


(QA) and Data Interpretation (DI) in 2024 is comprehensive and
covers a wide range of topics. It is the third and final section of
the redesigned XAT exam pattern. This section plays a crucial
role in calculating the XAT percentile. The Quant syllabus for
XAT 2024 covers all the concepts and topics related to
mathematics, which may include both expected and unexpected
areas.

Number of Questions: In the Quantitative Ability & Data


Interpretation portion of the XAT 2024, there would be 28 MCQs.

Section-4: General Awareness

Section Highlights: The latter part of the XAT exam includes a


section on General Awareness (GK). The score obtained in this
section does not contribute to the percentile calculation. The GK
questions in the XAT can cover both current and traditional topics.
It is advantageous to have a deep and consistent understanding of
GK, as some questions in this section can be challenging and
require comprehensive study.

Number of Questions: According to the new XAT exam format,


there will be 25 multiple-choice questions in the XAT 2024 exam.

Section-5: Essay Writing
Essay writing: The Essay writing section was brought back into
the XAT exam in the previous year. Candidates will receive a topic
or argument and are required to express their thoughts in a
well-organized manner. It's important to note that the evaluation of
the Essay Writing section will take place only after the candidates
have been shortlisted for the Personal Interview (PI) stage.

XAT 2024 Exam Pattern
The XAT is an online test conducted on a computer. It consists of 100
questions divided into four sections, with a maximum possible score
of 100. Each correct answer is awarded a +1 mark, while each wrong
answer incurs a penalty of -0.25 points. The duration of the XAT
2024 exam is three hours. Here is the test pattern and syllabus for
