Eva Becker-Grahame 2022 Year 11 Final Report

General Capabilities
General capabilities are skills that are universally important in all industries and for successful study. Students who
are working at an advanced level across the general capabilities are more likely to demonstrate success in the
workplace and in study.
Bradfield’s general capabilities have been developed from a consideration of both the NSW public sector General
Capability Framework and NESA NSW syllabuses. This list is not exhaustive but rather a glimpse of capabilities
relevant to student work at Bradfield.
Students may be demonstrating general capabilities at an advanced level at times but may not be awarded this unless
it is consistently demonstrated. A number of factors may contribute to developing and emerging levels, which may
include factors such as inconsistency of approach or a lack of attendance that makes it difficult to consistently
demonstrate these capabilities.

Year 11 English Advanced Teacher: Dylan Williams

Content Statement:
In the English Advanced course, students continue to explore opportunities that are offered by challenging
texts to investigate complex and evocative ideas, to evaluate, emulate and employ powerful, creative and
sophisticated ways to use language to make meaning, and to find enjoyment in literature.

Through exploring and experimenting with processes of composition and response, students further
develop understanding of how language is employed to create artistic expression in texts. They analyse
the different ways in which texts may reflect and/or challenge and extend the conventions of other texts.
They evaluate the meanings conveyed in these texts, and how this is achieved. Students further develop
skills in independent, collaborative and reflective learning. Such skills form the basis of sound practices of
investigation and analysis required for adult life, including the world of work as well as post-school
training and education. The modules encourage students to question, reconsider and refine meaning
through language, and to reflect on their own processes of responding, composing and learning.

enjoys the practical aspect of the course and it has been a pleasure seeing her signature style evidenced in
projects. Eva has a few units still to complete, which should be prioritised outside of class time in Term 4. I
look forward to seeing her skills continue to develop in Year 12.

Teacher Comment:
Eva is a visually intuitive and intelligent learner who has strong instincts for screen storytelling. Her strong
work in the course includes: (i) The Hatching - an experimental take on the chase scene project that Eva
crafted beautifully in editing and sound work; (ii) an interview with a fellow classmate, where Eva
designed interview questions, a lighting concept and directed a crew. Assessments are often completed to
a strong standard, although reminders are often required to make the submission. Eva could at times
collaborate with others in the class outside of her immediate comfort zone of friends. Eva could achieve a
great deal more if she was more regularly in attendance.
