ISSUE 16

September-2023
EDITORS’ MESSAGE

Dear Students,

This issue of Ujjval carries the glimpses of various activities carried out in our college campus. It also
highlights some achievements of our teachers and students. Enjoy these memories…

As your upcoming exams draw near, we want to take a moment to offer you some words of
encouragement and guidance. We understand that this can be a stressful and challenging time, but
please remember that you are capable, and you've got to overcome all the obstacles and win.

1. Preparation is Key: Start by organizing your study materials, creating a study schedule, and
breaking down your topics into manageable chunks. Prioritize the areas where you need the
most improvement but don't forget to review what you already know well.
2. Stay Healthy: Taking care of your physical and mental well-being is crucial during this time. Get
enough sleep, eat balanced meals, and make time for short breaks to recharge your mind.
3. Practice, Practice, Practice: Solve past exam papers and practice questions. This not only helps
you get familiar with the format but also builds your confidence.
4. Active Learning: Instead of passively reading your notes, engage in active learning techniques
such as summarizing, teaching the material to someone else, or creating flashcards.
5. Stay Positive: Believe in yourself and your abilities. Negative thoughts can hinder your
performance. Whenever you feel overwhelmed, take a deep breath, and remind yourself of
your accomplishments and capabilities.
6. Time Management: Manage your time effectively during the exam. Allocate a specific amount
of time to each section and question, and don't get stuck on one question for too long.
7. Seek Help: If you're struggling with certain topics, don't hesitate to reach out for help.
Teachers, tutors, and classmates are valuable resources.
8. Stay Calm: On the day of the exam, stay calm and focused. Arrive early, read the instructions
carefully, and take deep breaths if you feel nervous.
9. Learn from Mistakes: After the exam, whether you feel it went well or not, take some time to
reflect. What went right? What could you have done differently? This self-reflection can help
you improve for the future.
10. Life Beyond Exams: Remember that exams are just one part of your academic journey. Your
worth and potential extend far beyond a grade on a test. Maintain a balanced perspective on
your education and your life.

Also remember to upgrade yourself with the changes, especially the changes in the syllabi and
question paper pattern. Lastly, keep in mind that your efforts will pay off, and you'll emerge from this
experience wiser and stronger. We believe in you, and your dedication is commendable. Stay focused,
stay positive, and give it your best effort. You've got what it takes to succeed! Wishing you the very
best in your upcoming exams!

Anti-Ragging Week at Udhna College

Anti-Ragging Week from 12th to 18th of August 2023 was organized at Udhna College in
which the entire college wholeheartedly participated.

The students were briefed about the event and were asked to register their online affidavit
on the UGC portal.

A poster making competition for students and Slogan Writing Competition for the staff was
also conducted successfully at the college.

The installation of the Anti-Ragging Squad was the highlight of today's function which
made its presence felt in the college premises as well as the vicinity around the college
with a stout march past in the area.

The idea of the Anti-Ragging Squad, the organizing of the Closing Ceremony at the end of
the week was a wonderful expression of the concern of the college principal Dr. Mehul
Desai. The idea was very well planned and executed by the Anti-Ragging Committee.

ANTI-RAGGING COMMITTEE REPORT – 2022-’23

In order to curtail the menace and risks of ragging, the UGC had instructed universities for
further instructing all colleges and departments to celebrate Anti-ragging week from 12th of August
to 18th of August. As soon as the circular was received at our end, the anti-ragging committee at
our Udhna College took up the opportunity to increase the ambit of the committee. At our
institution, we have made it compulsory for students to undertake the responsibility of their conduct
with other students. This conditions their mindset about the discipline for which the college is
recognized. Like every year, this year also the ‘undertaking’ has been signed by all the students,
as it is made a part of the admission process.

The students who take admission in the First Year, are Oriented with various activities, rules,
regulations, cells, committees, etc. As a part of their Orientation, we also include and highlight the
active Women Cell and Anti-ragging committee members. This activity provides them a safe and
secure environment where they not only study in a stress-free atmosphere, but also get the
freedom to bring out their hidden talents. Such a type of Orientation Program was done this year
as well.

Then, to begin with the weeklong celebration, a power point presentation was made by
committee member Dr. Rudri Purohit with the obvious theme on Anti-ragging. This power point
presentation was shown in all the First Year classes across all the faculties (B.Com., BBA, BCA)
running in the college, by the class mentors on 12/8/2023. Another committee member, Dr.
Parikshit Icchaporia was on continuous rounds to ensure the simultaneous smooth running of the
program.

A poster-making competition was organized by committee member Ms. Nisha Medhat, with a
theme – Ill effects of Ragging. Several students participated in the event and displayed their
creativity. Since we do not have any case of ragging in the past 21 years, the students had no
personal relatedness to the pictures, but their sense of precision, perfectness and color
combination made the judges believe that they could be even laminated and kept for display. The
event was judged by Dr. Kalpesh Kansara and Ms. Nisha Medhat. The pictures of the posters and
winners are enclosed.

ANTI-RAGGING COMMITTEE REPORT – 2022-’23

An Anti-ragging Slogan Making Competition – Teachers Edition was organized by Vice

chairperson of the committee, Dr. Daisy Thekknal. Yes, this year, we also made the teachers
compete among themselves and thereby involved every faculty member in the celebration week.
Submission was to be done in A4 Word Doc with Decorative Templates. The list of slogans and
pictures of winners is enclosed. The faculty competition was ably judged by Dr. Sanjay Patel.

In this manner the entire week was spent in meetings, lectures, competitions and
discussions on how to widen our ambit. In one such discussion, our Principal Dr. Mehul Desai
gave a sparkling idea of releasing an Anti-ragging Squad of 50 students. This may be one of the
first student squad in the history of VNSGU. So as the week got over, a grand closing ceremony
was held in which the student’s squad was released, on 19/8/2023. Committee member Dr. Tejas
Ghadiyali addressed the function. And installation ceremony was conducted, wherein the students
were given t-shirts and caps, they marched across the college centre porch and campus and took
oath under the guidance of Dr. Rudri Purohit. This entire event was well managed, executed and
anchored by committee member Dr. Pearl Kharas. Lastly and most importantly, the squad was
personally and separately addressed by Principal Dr. Mehul Desai.
