Hope for the Future: The Fight Against Climate Change

Enviro-Photo

According to UN Climate Change, seas and oceans have long taken the brunt of the
impacts of human-made global warming. As the planet’s largest carbon sink, these bodies of
water absorb excess heat and energy released from rising greenhouse gas emissions trapped in
the Earth’s system. As the excessive heat and energy warms the oceanwaters, the change in
temperature leads to unparalleled cascading effects, including ice-melting, sea-level rise,
marine heatwaves, and ocean acidification. These changes ultimately cause a lasting impact on
marine biodiversity, and the lives and livelihoods of coastal communities and beyond.
It took centuries to bring oceans to the brink and restoring ocean health is a tremendous
challenge. But there is hope. Just like how this mangrove tree along the coastline of Consuelo
continue to stand strong against the waves and radiate light through its leaves, the long fight
against climate change shall endure and must not cease.
Let’s start by raising awareness and educating individuals, families, and the community
about the impact of climate change. We must act now!
