Road to be a good educator

When I read my name on the acceptance list and found out I was going
to be a freshman at Hanoi National University of Education (HNUE), I was
overjoyed because I knew my future career opportunities are promising.
After four years, I have achieved my university degree. Therefore, I am
determined to enhance my learning with a master degree. This essay
would be a personal statement in which I would express my desire to
attend HNUE in order to further my education/career pursuits and future
research interests.

From my early childhood, I have been interested in watching Disney

Channel. This educational and entertaining program covers a wide range of
topics with foreign languages. The channel helps me gain exposure to
English and I have grown fond of learning this language since I was a
toddler. Since then, my parents nurtured me to study English as a foreign
language, therefore I have been learning and using English for my entire
life. Back then, my family knew studying English was the key for bright
vision, hence they provided me with all the resources I needed to become a
well-educated person in general as well as an English learner. Eventually, I
was admitted to one of the most prestigious Vietnam universities - HNUE.
During my time as an HNUE/FOE student, HNUE lecturers, specifically
FOE lecturers, had dedicatedly guided me. Today, with all the
accomplishments I have, are thanks to my family and HNUE/FOE teachers.

As previously mentioned, having learned English at a young age, my

personal traits and career orientation were also shaped. In terms of
personal traits, learning English develops my interpersonal skills naturally.
To illustrate, from the time I was a child till now, I use English to
communicate efficiently and confidently in real-life settings. As for career
orientation, the more I am drawn to the language, the more my goals
revolve around it. Before I went to HNUE, I struggled with my career
direction because there are tons of options. I love the idea of being an
English teacher, interpreter (to name a few). However, I finally got my
answer after spending time studying and observing my teachers at the
Faculty of English (FOE) at HNUE.

Studying English Linguistics as an undergraduate degree allowed me to

obtain a better knowledge of the function as well as the role of this
language. Completing lessons in English Linguistic at FOE, allowed me to
understand not only the smallest aspect of the language but also the
significance of education. Although my major has not thing to do with
educational field, I have learned numerous teaching skills from all of the
inspiring FOE lecturers by chance. Thus, I realized that my true passions
are in the educational profession. At the moment, I am a graduated who
has lots of ambition and I am willing to take on academic challenges to
become a well educator as well as a good teacher for my future students.
To make my goal happens, I am motivated to acquire knowledge to
systematic education from HNUE, specifically my Faculty of English (FOE).

HNUE-FOE is my preferred higher education institution for abundant

reasons. Prior to starting university, I had not had much practical English
language training, apart from fundamental grammar and vocabulary, and
most of them were merely theoretical knowledge. Nevertheless, while
learning at my university, I was able to apply what I had learned in the
courses through various presentation assignments both in and out of class.
FOE teachers' constructive comments improve my public speaking skills
along with pronunciation errors which is significantly necessary for my
education as a whole. The best part is that FOE teachers have never
missed on giving feedback to any students’ assignments. They are
dedicated to their professions and work hard to ensure the academic
performance of their students are what I truly admire and get motivation
from.

Furthermore, the methods used by FOE lecturers delivering to students

are not complex, on the other hand, they are captivating yet touching, like
they use a source of fun or their own sense of humor to demonstrate the
lessons. In some lessons, the teachers take their own examples helping
students ease their anxiety and confusion of the tasks they are dealing
with. With this technique, students are sympathized and have motivation to
make the effort to attain academic attainment. By some of the main
reasons I have written above, due to FOE lectures’ devotion as well as
unique teaching methods, I believe that HNUE-FOE is where I decide on
fulfilling my goal and a Master of Theory and Methodology in English
Language Teaching with the support of FOE lecturers.

Since my inspiration to become a teacher was drawn from FOE lecturers,

I aspire to have the same impact on the lives of others. While being
assigned as a teaching assistant at my last English Center, I have been
fascinated by younger children. There, I was in charge of supporting and
caring for younger children aged three to eleven years old. Despite the fact
that I was not fit to teach at the time owing to a lack of teaching abilities for
children, I yearned for the day when I could personally impart my
knowledge to my own students. Fortunately, as a senior at HNUE, I was
ultimately qualified to teach English for children at the center where I
currently work. From a teacher’s perspective, I have learned that the role of
a teacher requires a diligent, assiduous personality. Teachers must be able
to deal with large workloads, diverse student personalities, and numerous
societal concerns that may occur during their job. However, having the
capacity to help a learner achieve their full potential gives me such a strong
sense of pride that I would willingly endure the obstacles that come with
becoming a teacher.

I picked this MA course in particular because it is a critical step on my

path towards teaching, one that will equip me not only with the skills
required to teach, but also with the skills required to interest students in
subjects that will form the foundation of their education. Moreover, I know
that education is an important aspect of every young student’s
development and I would like to make a contribution on their journey.

With regard to my professional objectives, I have a great desire to

establish an English Centre for younger students. However, that is a big
long-term goal being built with small short-term goals ahead. Therefore, my
immediate goals are accomplishing a master degree, an IELTS band score
of 8.5 and improving my teaching abilities with numerous training sections.
These goals will enable me to be more knowledgeable and comforting
when giving knowledge with learners, as well as gain the trust of their
parents. Finally, yet importantly, after achieving all of the aforementioned
objectives, I plan to build a big house - an English center – where younger
students may come to learn not only this magnificent language, but also
about the world around them.

What is more, if I get the opportunity to conduct additional study, I am

particularly interested in Phonetics. Since speaking skill is one of my strong
suits, also the majority of English learners find it challenging to master this
skill. In conclusion, I believe that this area of study will benefit my speaking
ability since I will be able to teach my students how to improve their accent
and pronunciation while also improving their public speaking reflection.

I am so grateful that I used to be a part of the HNUE and FOE family that
leads to where I am today, having a clear future orientation. Going forward,
I aim to pursue a vocation in teaching, where I will be able to assist children
in unleashing their full potential, both in terms of academic performance
and personal well-being. When I discovered your MA course, I was
ecstatic. I hope for the opportunity of maintaining my education under the
guidance of outstanding lecturers at FOE.
