Haydale is a global technology
Bringing cutting-edge technology solutions company, passionate
and engineering expertise together about creating the next generation
to create material change of advanced materials to improve
mechanical, thermal and electrical
properties for our customers.

We have developed a patented

process for graphene and other
nanomaterials that we believe
will take the lead for Batteries and
Energy Storage Applications.

Haydale’s HDPlas® technology is an
environmentally friendly plasma functionalisation
process that is fit for high-volume production of
functionalised nanomaterials for energy storage
applications.

With Haydale’s HDPlas® process it is possible to

manufacture high-performance battery electrodes
due to homogeneous mixing between the fillers and
the resin binder. The HDPlas® process is very useful
in terms of formulating battery inks for anodes and
cathodes.

Plasma functionalised graphene-based

nanomaterials demonstrate superior physical and
electrical properties compared to their
unfunctionalised counterparts, which can be
beneficial for achieving high-capacity battery
electrodes.

How Does Graphene Make a Better Battery

• Functionalised Graphene: Amine-
Case Studies functionalised graphene-based electrode
delivered an outstanding specific capacity of
19,789 mAh/g at a current density of 200 mA/g
as well as better cycling stability than graphene
without the amine functional group.
• Functionalised Graphite: Graphite treated
with fluoride surface functional groups can lead
to higher discharge capacity than its
unfunctionalised counterpart.
• Binder-Free Coatings: Haydale have
developed graphite anodes on copper
substrates for high-performance Li-B application
without affecting graphite’s intrinsic energy
density.
• Graphene Ink: By using graphene ink as an
anode, the best battery behaviour of 165 mAh/g
was achieved, corresponding to an energy
density as high as 190 Wh/kg for an average of
80 cycles.
• Asymmetric supercapacitors made of plasma-
Case Studies treated FLG materials performed at a 50%
higher capacitance than the untreated FLG
material-based devices. The reason for the
higher capacitance could be the
increased conductivity due to the presence of
nitrogen containing functional groups.

• The NH3 plasma-treated materials showed

significant changes to the devices’ performance in
water-based electrolytes. It had been shown that
the lone NH3 plasma treatment reduced the
devices’ internal resistance. Approximately 66%
increase in the specific capacitance was
obtained from functionalised material compared
to its unfunctionalised counterpart.
