Objectives:

Tujuan:
 Meminta penjelasan
 Meminta pengulangan
 Menanggapi pertanyaan tentang klarifikasi
 Menanggapi pertanyaan tentang pengulangan

DIALOGUE 1
Andri :" Can you tell me what bus goes to the town?"
Barry :" Excuse me. Where are you going to?"
Andri :" To the town”
Barry :"Oh. That's bus number fifteen"
Andri :"I beg your pardon. Bus number fifty?"
Barry :"No. Bus number fifteen"
Andri :"Oh, Sorry. It's noisy around here. Thank you”
Barry :"That's alright."

CONCLUSION:
This dialogue 1 discusses an Andri who asks Barry about the bus number that will go to
the city, this dialogue includes asking for clarification and repetition

DIALOGUE 2

Operato :" Hello, PEDC’s office here, Can I help you?"

Caller :" Yes, please. Can I talk with Dedy?"
Operato :"Excuse me. Can you speak louder, please?"

Caller :"Can I talk with Dedy?"
Operato :"Dedy, Oh yes . What Dedy is it? We have three Dedies here."

Caller :"I am not sure."
Operato :"What department does he belong to?"

Caller :"Can you say that again?"
Operato :"What department does he belong to?"

Caller :"Oh he belongs to the Commerce Department"
Operato :"That's Dedi Syaifullah. Okay. Wait please. I'll put you through. (After

Operato :"Hello, I'm afraid he's not in at the moment."

Caller :"Okay, I'll call again later."

CONCLUSION:

in this dialog a caller wants to talk to dedy through an operator call,

then the operator explains that there are three dedy in his company

(Di mana operator dalam dialog 2 bekerja?)
= Operator in the dialogue 2 works at the PEDC’s office (Operator dalam dialog 2
bekerja di kantor PEDC)
5. How many Dedies are there in the office?
(Berapa banyak Dedies yang ada di kantor?)
= They have three Dedies in the office 9 (Mereka memiliki tiga Dedies di kantor)
6. Which Dedy does the speaker want?
(Dedy yang mana yang diinginkan pembicara?)
= The speaker wants Deddy Syaifullah (Pembicara menginginkan Deddy
Syaifullah)
7. Was the caller able to speak with Dedy that he wanted to?
(Apakah penelepon dapat berbicara dengan Dedy yang diinginkannya?)
= The caller can’t speak with Dedy cause Dedy isn’t in at the moment
(Penelepon tidak dapat berbicara dengan Dedy karena Dedy sedang tidak ada)

ATTENTION
To ask for repetition, you say:
• I beg your pardon  Can you say that again?
• Pardon me.  What did you say?
• Excuse me.  Can you repeat that, please?
• I am sorry  Sorry I didn't catch that

To respond to that, you say:


• Sure.  Okay
• Certainly  All right

To ask for clarification, you say:


• Which Dedy is it?
• What department does he belong to?
• What is he like?
• Excuse me. I don't understand what you mean
• Can you clarify that?

To answer those questions, you say:  It's


Dedy Syaefullah
• He belongs to the Commerce department.  He is a shortish, thin man with a
moustache
• I mean..........

CONLUSION:
on this attention, is a way to find responding and answer clarifying.

Mr. Roger is a good teacher, but he speaks very fast. I often ask him to speak slowly I
also often ask him to clearly if I don’t catch what he has said. So I say to him: “Mr.
Roger, I don’t understand. Can you say that again?”. Or I just say: “I beg your pardon,
sir. Mr. Roger likes it when a student asks him to me if you don’t know what I mean”
Another reason why I often ask him to repeat his words is that the room is near the street,
so it is very noisy.

(Tuan Roger adalah guru yang baik, tapi dia berbicara sangat cepat. Saya sering
meminta nya untuk berbicara dengan pelan, saya juga sering meminta nya untuk
berbicara dengan jelas. Jika saya tidak menangkap apa yang dia katakan. Jadi saya
bilang ke dia: “Tuan Roger, saya tidak mengerti. Bisakah kamu mengatakan nya lagi?”.
Atau saya hanya bilang: “Saya minta maaf, Tuan. Tuan Roger suka Ketika seorang
siswa menanyakan dia apabila kamu tidak mengerti apa yang saya maksud.” Alasan
lain kenapa saya sering meminta nya untuk mengulagi kata-kata nya bahwa ruangan
tersebut dekat dengan jalan, jadi sangat berisik.”)

U:“What did you say?”
I: “I mean: what is the most difficult aspect in learning English?”
(Maksud saya :apa aspek yang paling sulit dalam belajar bahasa Inggris?)

U:““I have diffulty in compiling grammar”


I: “All right. I hope you can cope with that soon. And sorry for the confusing
sentences I’ve made above”
(Baiklah. Saya harap Anda dapat mengatasinya segera. Dan maaf atas kalimat
membingungkan yang saya buat di atas)
U:“I hope so too, Thank you!”

CONLUSION:

the conclusion of this unit 12 is to ask for clarification and repetition and how

to respond to the question
