Introductory Message
Welcome to Disciplines and Ideas in Applied Social Sciences SHS!

The Learning Activity Sheet is a product of the collaborative efforts of the

Schools Division of Capiz and DepEd Regional Office VI - Western Visayas through
the Curriculum and Learning Management Division (CLMD). This is developed to
guide the learning facilitators (teachers, parents and responsible adults) in helping the
learners meet the standards set by the K to 12 Basic Education Curriculum.

The Learning Activity Sheet is self-directed instructional materials aimed to

guide the learners in accomplishing activities at their own pace and time using the
contextualized resources in the community. This will also assist the learners in
acquiring the lifelong learning skills, knowledge and attitudes for productivity and
employment.

For learning facilitator:

The Disciplines and Ideas in Applied Social Sciences Activity Sheet will
help you facilitate the leaching-learning activities specified in each Most Essential
Learning Competency (MELC) with minimal or no face-to-face encounter between you
and learner. This will be made available to the learners with the references/links to
ease the independent learning.

For the learner:

The Disciplines and Ideas in Applied Social Sciences Activity Sheet is

developed to help you continue learning even if you are not in school. This learning
material provides you with meaningful and engaging activities for independent
learning. Being an active learner, carefully read and understand the instructions then
perform the activities and answer the assessments. This will be returned to your
facilitator on the agreed schedule.

LEARNING ACTIVITY SHEETS IN DISCIPLINE AND IDEAS IN THE APPLIED
SOCIAL SCIENCES
Processes and Methods in Communication

Name of Learner: ________________________________ Grade Level: ________

Section: ________________________________________ Date: ______________

I. Learning Competency with Code

 The learners illustrate the different processes and methods involved in

undertaking communication (HUMSS_DIASS 12-IIa-40)

II. Background Information for Learners

Communication is a process of conveying a message or messages to another

or others for a purpose. This definition connotes the need to understand the process
of communication and the ways of doing it.

In the previous modules, it was emphasized that to be effective

communicator, one must understand the principles of communication. Five Principles
of Communication were introduced. These are:

1. Communication is a process.
2. Communication has elements.
3. Communication has goals.
4. Communication has levels.
5. Communication has forms.

This time you are challenged to enrich your knowledge and improve your skills
in communication by discovering, investigating, and developing patterns among the
processes, elements, goals, levels and forms of communication.

Help yourself to be able to illustrate the different processes and methods

involved in undertaking communication.

Take for example the case of a child wanting to communicate to his parent
about his/her need to buy a new pair of shoes. What do you think is the best way to
convey his message to get the positive response from his parents? Will it be through
speaking directly to them, writing a letter to them, or doing some good deeds to let
them feel he/she needs something? Do you think the child needs another person to
help him/her convince his/her parents? What are the things he/she might need in
order to communicate his/her message effectively? What is the best time to
communicate to his/her parents? Can he make his/her request at any place?

You might be thinking that you are just complicating the case. You might think
differently. You might be asking yourself now.

1
You might realize now that communication does not come in one form.
Communication, to be effective, requires methods and processes that are appropriate
to a particular setting.
