Baseline Data of Project Area:

A project baseline is a fixed reference point used to compare project performance over time.
Project baselines are used by project managers to understand how project scope, schedule, and
cost are progressing through the completion of a project. The Project area forms the northwestern
part of the Potawar Plateau. There are three main tracts which will be affected by Project
activities.

 The Ghazi tract, which is close to the barrage and the power channel's upstream end.
 The Chhachh tract, which stretches from Ghurghushti to the GT road, the main route
connecting Lahore and Peshawar, and from the Indus River to the Ghandghar Mountains,
is mostly comprised of the Indus flood plain and has fertile area for farming.
 The Sarwala tract is the hilliest of the tracts, and the soil is typically of poor quality. It is
located between the GT road and the Haro River, extending west to the Indus River.
 Throughout the neighborhood of Kamra and Rumian, river deposits including gravel,
sand, and silt, extend to depths of at least 30 meters throughout the majority of the project
area.
 The major land uses in the Project area are farming and meadow.
 Between Tarbela and the entrance of the Kabul River, the Indus runs in an extensive
interwove canal with a number of Desert Island.
 Downstream of the barrage, the Indus water is used for watering livestock, washing,
bathing, and various dirt discarding.
 Wild animals in the Project area are narrow and consist of jackals, fox and wild pig in the
Project area and vary seasonally.
 The Project area supports no permanent natural wetlands or open water bodies, other than
pools along the Indus.
 Birds of the area include blue rock pigeon, seesee, grey partridge, large and small sand
moan. The most abundant fish in the Indus are the mullah and chaina, trapped by
fishermen.
 The population of the region rose at a yearly rate of only 1.6% throughout the nine years
in the middle of the 1972 and 1981 surveys.
 The occupation structure of the area remains agricultural, including the facility sector.
 The Project area contains many graveyards and tombs.
