Hamish McCormick

Hamish McCormick worked as an Australian government official for more than 30 years on
the full range a range of international trade and economic issues. He served as Australia’s
Ambassador to the WTO, UNCTAD and WIPO from 2013-17, after an earlier posting to
Geneva from 1997-2001. During his time in Geneva, Hamish served as Chair of the Goods
Council and Chair of the Safeguards Committee. As a senior Australian trade negotiator
Hamish was involved in a range of Australia’s bilateral Free Trade Agreement negotiations,
including with ASEAN, Thailand and Malaysia, China, the UK, and the Trans Pacific
Partnership (TPP). He represented Australia in a range of regional and multilateral economic
institutions including WTO, UNCTAD, WIPO, APEC, ASEAN, OECD, and IORARC. He was
Deputy Chief Executive of the Australian Trade Commission (Austrade) from 2005-07.
Before retiring, Hamish McCormick was Chief Executive of the Australian Financial Security
Authority (AFSA) and Inspector-General in Bankruptcy, the regulator of the Australian
personal insolvency system from 2017-21.
