“But someday, you’ll understand”

Have you ever wandered how does it feel to be your favorite artist on stage? That’s

practically how it felt like for me two years ago, on June 23.

At the time, singing in my school’s choir was the only way I was related to music. My

teacher needed a whole instrumental for a song that was going to be in the album and performed

on stage at the end of the year. I was already stressed about performing for an hour facing a

hundred people, but music has always been important for me, and I wasn’t scared to try

something new.

Perhaps, I proposed myself for the task, and ended up collaborating with my superior. I

started from scratch. It has been a long time since I didn’t use a music software. I closed my

eyes, and in my mind, the choir kept on singing the lyrics:

“But someday you'll understand

The meaning of my life

But someday you'll understand

The meaning of these words”

(qtd. in Meaning, Cascadeur)

I could hear the sound that a raindrop would make in a cave when falling on the ground

and making an echo. I directly played the drums, added ambient melodies, audio effects, and I

sent it to my teacher, who adjusted a few things, and told me he was impressed of how good it

sounded with the choir.

The day we performed the song, I felt nervous because I knew he would call my name to

mix the audio in front of everyone. Its hard to make it sound good in a concert where there’s five

speakers spreading the sound coming from my device. The teacher made me play the track in

first, so that the choir could fit in the rhythm. The music started. I had a feeling I’ve never felt

before. It was like choir understood better the mood of the song. The place we were in had

church type of windows, I started to feel like the voices came out of a church mass.

The song ended, everyone applauded. Even today, it’s still one of the best experiences I

lived. This moment made me want to compose more often, even that today, making music is my

main hobby.
