1. Course Code: CE-412

2. Course Title: Structural Analysis and Design (Sessional - III): Computer aided analysis
and design of structures

3. Course Type: Core Course

4.Level/ Term: Level: 4 Term: I

5. Academic Session: 2020-21

6. Course Teacher: M. Abdur R. Bhuiyan, PhD, Professor, Dept. of CE, CUET

7. Prerequisite(s): None

8. Credits: 1.5

9. Contact Hours: 3 hours of class work per week

10. Total Marks: 150

11. Rationale of the Course:

The students will be introduced with professional softwares and BNBC-2020/ ACI318 to be used
in analysis and design of multistoried RC buildings. This course will cover the application of
professional software in analysis and design of different structural components, such as
foundations, columns, beams and slabs as per the guidelines of national/ international codes, and
preparation of structural BOQ of a multi-storied RC building.

Course Content:
Introduction of professional softwares, such as ETABS, SAFE, SAP 2000, etc. used in analysis
and design of RC buildings. Use of the guidelines of BNBC-2020/ ACI318 for analysis and
design of RC buildings for design loads.

12. Course Objectives:

(a) Introduce the different codes/standards to be used in analysis and design of RC
buildings.
(b) Introduce the different professional softwares to be used in analysis and design of RC
buildings.
(c) Use the professional software to determine the design loads of each member of RC
building.
(d) Design the different members of RC building following the guidelines of BNBC-
2020/ACI318

13. Course Learning Outcomes (CLOs) and Mapping of CLOs with Program
Learning Outcomes (PLOs)

a) CLOs

PLO-2 Problem analysis: Identify, formulate, research and analyze complex engineering problems
and reach substantiated conclusions using the principles of mathematics, the natural sciences
and the engineering sciences.
PLO-3 Design/Development of solutions: Design solutions for complex engineering problems
and design systems, components or processes that meet specified needs with appropriate
consideration for public health and safety, cultural, societal, and environmental
considerations.
PLO-5 Modern tool usage: Create, select and apply appropriate techniques, resources, and
modern engineering and IT tools, including prediction and modelling, to complex
engineering problems, with an understanding of the limitations.
PLO- Communication: Communicate effectively on complex engineering activities with the
10 engineering community and with society at large, such as being able to comprehend and
write effective reports and design documentation, make effective presentations, and give
and receive clear instructions.
