WARNING! All electrical installations and maintenance work on any Triol AТ24
variable frequency drive for PUMP application should be done only by qualified electrical
personnel.
Before starting installation and operation of variable frequency drive carefully study these
safety regulations and operation guidelines. Some active or heated components and parts of
variable frequency drive should be accessed in the process of operation. Operation of the product
with open cover constitutes a violation of the rules of operation, and may cause major injuries to
the service personnel and damage to the equipment and property. It should be also noted that
variable frequency drives operate rotating parts of mechanical equipment that bears extra risks,
and that’s why it’s necessary to follow the instructions specified in this Operating Manual. In these
rules a qualified personnel should be clear to mean some persons possessing required skill s to
perform installation, set-up, operation and maintenance of variable frequency drives, as well as
those who have appropriate qualification to execute such kinds of work. Safe operation of this
product is achieved due to its proper use for intended purposes.
DC-link capacitors hold voltage dangerous for life within 15 minutes after the variable
frequency drive has been disconnected. So wait for a specified time before opening the front
cover. Dangerous voltages may still remain across all terminals of power nets. Access of children
and other unauthorized persons to electrical equipment should be denied. The housing of variable

NOTE! The location of the technical specifications sticker is the same for all VFDs
To ensure a sufficient cooling of Triol AТ24-RT variable frequency drives all the required
clearances and air gaps indicated in Fig. 4.4 should be provided during its installation.

Hot air supply is excluded by the air septum installations between variable frequency drives.
Hot air does not proceed to the variable frequency drives. The minimum space which is necessary
to compliance with this conditions is shown in fig. 4.5.

NOTE: When a power supply (input) cable featuring insufficient conductivity of the shield is
used it should be fitted with a grounding wire, or a separate protective grounding wire should be
used. If the cable shield conductivity is turned to be insufficient during the motor cable laying and
this cable has no symmetrical grounding wires, a separate grounding cable should be used.
NOTE! Before increasing of speed rotation, make sure that motor rotate in the
needed direction.
How to change rotation direction is shown in Figure 5.5.
NOTE! Rotate direction can be changed with variable frequency drive, but it’s recommended
to connect motor cables, so that the forward direction must com- ply with variable frequency drive
rotation in clockwise order. To change motor direction, you should change the sign frequency
reference in parameter 13.0 (for example from 40 Hz to -40 Hz).

WARNING! The installing of control wires should be made only when drive is de
energized. It may cause serious injuries or danger for your life and also to equipment failure.
The order of mount operations for connection of cables to units of drive Triol AT 24 (control
wires connection is shown in Figure 6.9):
1. Remove insulating protective jacket of cable, without damaging the screen, on following
length:
35 mm (1.38 in) - for cable connection to the terminal XT1.L of the drive control unit Triol
NVSA;
60 mm (2.36 in) - for cable connection to the terminal XT1.H of the drive control unit
Triol NVSA;
110 mm (4.33 in) - for cable connection to the terminal of the additional extension units
Triol EXT.
2. Remove insulation from conductor on following length:
Less than 6 mm (0.24 in) - for connection to the terminal of the NVSA unit;
Less than 5 mm (0.2 in) - for connection to the terminal of the additional extension units.
3. Unscrew the bolt of corresponding terminals.
4. Insert the conductor of the wire into the terminal’s opening as shown in Figure 6.10.

The physical level underlying Modbus communication protocol is RS-485 electrical standard.
RS-485 standard is widely used in industrial local networks. Standard supports balanced
multipoint systems and provides since it uses a differential balanced line over twisted pair, it can
span relatively large distances, up to 1200 m (0.74 mi) and resists electromagnetic interference
from motors and welding equipment. Using the repeaters allows to enlarge the transmit distance
on 1200 m (0.74 mi) and adds 32 devises more. RS-485 supports half-duplex communication and
it is enough 2 wires for data receiving and transition.
Main characteristics of RS-485 network is shown in Table 11.1.
Table 11.1 - RS-485 standard network characteristics

Use the same type of cable in all network and termination resistors at the network ends to
prevent the cable impedance unbalance.
Connect the motor to the drive with screened cable for best results in electromagnetic
interference protection. Big importance has grounding of cable near each device, including high
frequency grounding. This can be achieved by attaching screen to the ground over a large
surface, for example using a cable clamp or conductive cable seal. It is might be required to use
potential equalization cables (for example PE - Protective Earth) for creating of the same potential
at the all network. It is especially important with long cables.
The termination resistor provides agreement of open cable end with the rest of line, and it is
installed on terminals near ends of network.
The resistors are in-built in interface unit ANET_RS-485. It’s using is specified in th Claim
11.4.4 of this Operating Manual. The rated resistance of termination ends in unit ANET_ RS-485
is corresponded to twisted-pair cable wave impedance, so it is not recommended to use other
types of cables

WARNING! The connecting of network cables should be made only when drive
supply voltage is turned off. It may cause serious injuries or danger for yours life and also
to equipment failure.
Jumper settings
Drive can be connected in the middle or at the end of the network, according this is need to
set the jumpers on interface unit ANET.
There are additional terminals A2 & B2 in unit ANET_RS-485 for connection of drive situated
in the middle of RS-485 bus. These terminals are designed for connection of the next device
cable. Connect jumpers as shown in Fig 11.5 to activate the additional terminals A2 & B2.
If the drive is situated at the end of RS-485 bus, it is necessary to provide it’s line agreement.
For this connect to network the termination resistors of the unit ANET_RS-485, by setting of
jumpers as shown in Fig. 11.6.
NOTE! Complete information about configuring communication settings and de- scription of
information exchange protocol is shown in “Programming manual“.
