1. Safety regulations
1.1. Warning and note
WARNING! – intending to prevent any accidents from the carelessness or from equipment
damage.
NOTE! – it is additional information about some facts and rules of using variable frequency
drive.
Warnings are denoted by the symbol:

WARNING! – risk of electric shock.

1.2. Basic safety regulations

WARNING! All electrical installations and maintenance work on any Triol AТ24
variable frequency drive for PUMP application should be done only by qualified electrical
personnel.

WARNING! Any operation associated with maintenance of variable frequency drive,

motor or motor cable under supply voltage is permitted. Before starting operation, the
voltage should be measured to make sure that the value is zero.

Before starting installation and operation of variable frequency drive carefully study these
safety regulations and operation guidelines. Some active or heated components and parts of
variable frequency drive should be accessed in the process of operation. Operation of the product
with open cover constitutes a violation of the rules of operation, and may cause major injuries to
the service personnel and damage to the equipment and property. It should be also noted that
variable frequency drives operate rotating parts of mechanical equipment that bears extra risks,
and that’s why it’s necessary to follow the instructions specified in this Operating Manual. In these
rules a qualified personnel should be clear to mean some persons possessing required skill s to
perform installation, set-up, operation and maintenance of variable frequency drives, as well as
those who have appropriate qualification to execute such kinds of work. Safe operation of this
product is achieved due to its proper use for intended purposes.
DC-link capacitors hold voltage dangerous for life within 15 minutes after the variable
frequency drive has been disconnected. So wait for a specified time before opening the front
cover. Dangerous voltages may still remain across all terminals of power nets. Access of children
and other unauthorized persons to electrical equipment should be denied. The housing of variable

АТ.654227.052 OM TRIOL EVERYTHING NEW EMERGES NOW 5

frequency drive and that of the motor as well as all the equipment connected to such housings
should be grounded according to the local regulations and/or rules to ensure the personnel
security, to decrease the level of electromagnetic radiation and to improve the interference
immunity.

1.3. Before exploitation or repair variable frequency drive,

follow these steps
 Disconnect the power supply of the variable frequency drive;
 Wait at least 15 minutes;
 Disconnect power supply control nets;
 Disconnect the power cables;
 Disconnect the control nets cables.

1.4. The excluding of inadvertent start variable frequency drive

If variable frequency drive is connected to the network, the motor can be started/ stopped by
digital method. Digital method comes by communication equipment and settings from remote
control.
To protect personnel from inadvertent start you must switch off the variable frequency drive
from supply network.
In order to avoid inadvertent start, it’s necessary to click a “Stop” button and “Safety stop”
button before you change parameters. If variable frequency drive didn’t switch off supply network
when he was stopped it can cause disrepair with electronics and inadvertent start of variable
frequency drive.
If the motor is stopped and variable frequency drive is not de energized, it can run by
electronics fault causes.
To prevent the inadvertent start for personal safety, e.g., injury risk is arisen in case of you
touched moving parts of the motor, you should to de energize the network.
Systems with variable frequency drive would be well to equip with monitoring and protect
systems according to the rules of standards and regulations.

8. Macros – description and linking
Content Overview Section.
This Claim describes the macros that are used to define groups of the electrical drive
parameters in the Triol AT24 PUMP series to minimize the need to manually vary of their values.

8.1. General Information on Macro

Macros are pre-programmed sets of parameters, allowing you to set the parameters group
values according to the most frequently used schemes of powering up the electrical drive.
Macros are divided into two groups:
 Macros configuring the motor control (the ”Control Type Macro” parameter); in this case,
we understand under the type of control the mode of ”Start”/”Stop” command operation
and the directions of rotation of the motor;
 Macros configuring referencing (the ”Macro Referencing Type” parameter) – by
referencing type meant setting of the ”Reference Channel 1” parameter and the
corresponding model parameters group configurations (see Table 4.2).
The list of parameters and their values to be set for each of the macros for the controls and
referencing groups is given in Tables 8.1 and 8.2.

8.3. Setting Motor Control Macros (start, stop and reverse)
8.3.1. ”Two-Wire Motor Control” Macro
Two-wire electrical drive control (the ”Two-wire control”) – when this macro is selected, the
electrical drive is configured to control a two-wire control scheme, that is, when applying the high-
level ”Digital Input 1” the motor starts going forward, with the loss of the high-level the motor is
stopped, and when applying the high-level ”Digital Input 2” the motor starts going backward, and
with the loss of the high-level the motor is stopped.
Figure 8.1 shows connection of the control nets to the Triol NVSA electrical drive control board

11. Communication equipment
11.1. General information
Variable frequency drive Triol AT24 in basic configuration is connected to the external control
system via RS-485 standard and interface unit Triol ANET_RS-485.
Interface unit Triol ANET_RS-485 is developed for connection variable frequency drive series
Triol AT24 to the external control system.
Variable frequency drive Triol AT24 with installed interface unit Triol ANET_RS-485
communicates with external devices via interface RS-485 and Modbus protocol (RTU mode).
Optionally can be installed other versions of the Interface unit Triol ANET:
 Triol Anet_CAN — is designed for connection variable frequency in CAN standard
communication networks with CanOpen, DeviceNet or other protocols (protocol is
specified in unit documentation);
 Triol Anet_LAN — is designed for connection variable frequency in local area networks
(LAN) communicated over Ethernet standard with Ethernet IP, EtherCAT, BACnet
protocols;
 Triol Anet_Profibus — is designed for connection variable frequency in RS-485
communication networks with Profibus DP protocol (data transfer rate up to 12 MBd).
The software of variable frequency detects the connection of these units automatically.
For more information on connecting and configuring interface units see the documentation,
that is supplied with the appropriate interface unit.

Connection of the drive to an external connection network allows to:

1. Fully control of the drive by the signals from external controller;
2. Control the drive in mixed mode, in which part of information flows through the network
from the external controller, and second part from some other possible sou rces of
signals, for example from sensors on digital and analog inputs;
3. Control the operation of the drive by reading the information on his condition and the
system as a whole.

11.4. Installation and configuration of RS-485 standard
11.4.1. General information

The physical level underlying Modbus communication protocol is RS-485 electrical standard.
RS-485 standard is widely used in industrial local networks. Standard supports balanced
multipoint systems and provides since it uses a differential balanced line over twisted pair, it can
span relatively large distances, up to 1200 m (0.74 mi) and resists electromagnetic interference
from motors and welding equipment. Using the repeaters allows to enlarge the transmit distance
on 1200 m (0.74 mi) and adds 32 devises more. RS-485 supports half-duplex communication and
it is enough 2 wires for data receiving and transition.
Main characteristics of RS-485 network is shown in Table 11.1.
Table 11.1 - RS-485 standard network characteristics
Characteristic Description
Standard EIA RS-485
Data transfer rate 10 MBit/s max
Transmission distance 1200 m (0,74 mi)

Number of receivers 32

11.4.2. Network line agreement

Use the same type of cable in all network and termination resistors at the network ends to
prevent the cable impedance unbalance.
Connect the motor to the drive with screened cable for best results in electromagnetic
interference protection. Big importance has grounding of cable near each device, including high
frequency grounding. This can be achieved by attaching screen to the ground over a large
surface, for example using a cable clamp or conductive cable seal. It is might be required to use
potential equalization cables (for example PE - Protective Earth) for creating of the same potential
at the all network. It is especially important with long cables.
The termination resistor provides agreement of open cable end with the rest of line, and it is
installed on terminals near ends of network.
The resistors are in-built in interface unit ANET_RS-485. It’s using is specified in th Claim
11.4.4 of this Operating Manual. The rated resistance of termination ends in unit ANET_ RS-485
is corresponded to twisted-pair cable wave impedance, so it is not recommended to use other
types of cables

68 TRIOL EVERYTHING NEW EMERGES NOW АТ.654227.052 OM

11.4.3. Recommendations for selection and installation of network
cables
To reduce interferences between wires it is recommended to use twisted-pair and it is not
recommended to use other types of cables;
 To prevent the cable impedance unbalance, use the same type of cable in all network;
 It is rather to connect the screen of the cable to PE from the side of master device (ACS
controller);
 The network must be laid like the topology of the bus, i.e. without branches;
 It is necessary to connect devices by using of minimal cable lengths;
 To reduce interference, it is necessary to install the termination resistors 120 Ohm at
the ends of network;
 Maximal cable length consists 1 km (0.62 mi) by baud rate 9600 b/s and wire size is
above 0.13 mm2 (AWG 26). By using of Category 5 cable (cat. 5) its length may be less
than 600 m (0.37 mi). Wave impedance of the cable is recommended to choice above
100 Ohm, especially in speeds more than 19200 b/s.

Figure 11.3 - Schematic of building the RS-485 standard network
Network cables must be routed in such a way, to minimize the negative influence of the
interferences. To provide this, please keep the followed recommendations.
 Route the power supply and motor cables as far as possible from control wires. (minimal
distance to the motor cables is 500 mm (19.7 in), to the power supply cables – 200 mm
(7.9 in));
 At the crossing of the control cables and power cables an angle between them should
be close to 90 °, to minimize mutual disturbances;
 It is recommended to place power and network cables in different cable trays;
 For reduction of electromagnetic interference, caused by abrupt changing the output
voltage of the electric drive, motor cable should not be located in parallel to other cables
on lengths over of 100 m (0,06 mi)

11.4.4. Network connection

WARNING! The connecting of network cables should be made only when drive
supply voltage is turned off. It may cause serious injuries or danger for yours life and also
to equipment failure.

Jumper settings
Drive can be connected in the middle or at the end of the network, according this is need to

14. Troubleshooting
14.1. Viewing and resetting alarm messages
A failure is evidenced by the red LED glowing on the remote control front face. It is also
evidenced by the alert symbol appeared on the remote control screen (see Fig. 14.1).

Figure 14.1 -Remote screen Triol P24E

To view the actual type of failure, move to the failure on-view menu: “Main Menu”→“Fault
Log”→“Drive Fault”.

Failure status is reset automatically if the failure cause has been eliminated where - upon the
availability status should appear (“Ready” light-emitting diode on the remote control face is on).

To view a type of the last failure, move to the last failure on-view menu: “Main Menu”→“Fault
Log”→“Fault fix”.

14.2. Fault log

Upon detection of a failure, information about it will be saved in the “Fault log” along with the
time mark and the variable frequency drive output parameters fixed at the moment of the failure.
Alarm history contains information about the last 32 failures. Information about all failures is saved
if power is off.
