TYPES OF FOOTINGS
WHAT IS A FOOTING??
The bottom part of a foundation is called the footing. Footings in construction
are critical, as the footing distributes the weight of the building evenly across
the entire structure so that it doesn't sink into the ground.

SIMPLE FOOTING
Individual footings are one of the most simple and common types of
foundations. These are used when the load of the building is carried by
columns. Usually, each column will have its own footing. The footing is
just a square or rectangular pad of concrete on which the column sits.

STEPPED FOOTING
The stepped footing is a simple type of isolated footing which is provided
over soil having less bearing capacity. Because of low soil capacity load
need to be transferred on the larger area. Stepped footing are stepped
upon one another. There are generally three to four cross-sections which
are stacked on each other in order to form the steps.

SLOPED FOOTING
Sloped Footing. Sloped isolated footing requires less concrete and
reinforcements bars than pad footing. It is constructed cautiously in
order to maintain a 45-degree inclination from all sides. The concrete
mix used must be stiff in order to avoid sustaining viscous deformation.

STRIP FOOTING
A wall footing or strip footing is a continuous strip of concrete that serves
to spread the weight of a load-bearing wall across an area of soil. It is a
component of a shallow foundation. Wall footings carrying direct vertical
loads might be designed either in plain concrete or in reinforced concrete.

RAFT FOOTING
Raft foundation is actually a thick concrete slab resting on a large area
of soil reinforced with steel, supporting columns or walls and transfer
loads from the structure to the soil. Usually, mat foundation is spread
over the entire area of the structure it is supporting.

STRAP FOOTING
A strap footing is a component of a building's foundation. It is a type
of combined footing, consisting of two or more column footings connected
by a concrete beam. This type of beam is called a strap beam. It is used to
help distribute the weight of either heavily or eccentrically loaded column
footings to adjacent footings.
