Woodstock : A politically committed festival

As a last tune, Jimi Hendrix played a revisited version of the national anthem : The Star Spangled
Banner. Yet that tune didn’t appeal to Americans patriotic feelings. It was meant to criticize /
denounce the government and their policy in Vietnam.

The sound of the guitar reminded people of the bombs that exploded on the battlefield. Hendrix also
wanted to denounce social issues like police violence and inequalities.

His version of the national anthem was an invitation for people to stand up against the
Establishment.
