First  I  attach  the  bottom/legs  to  the  front  legs.  Use  2  1/2”deck  screws.
Then  I  stand  them  up  and  attach  the  seat  pieces.  Leave  1/2”  between  the  seat  boards.  2“  screws.
Next  I  attach  the  arms  to  the  back  support.  Use  2”  screws.  Do  not  worry  about  making  the  ends  of  the  back  support
flush  with  the  sides  of  the  arms.  The  critical  measurement  is  betwen  the  arms.  It  should  be  2’  -  the  same  as  the  seat
pieces.
Now  set  the  arms  on  the  front  legs.  Use  two  scrap  2’  pieces  of  wood  to  hold  it  up  at  the  back.  (It  doesn’t  hurt  to  have
someone  hold  them  steady  while  you  screw  the  arms  to  the  front  legs.  You  can  use  3  or  3  1/2”  screws  for  this.  I  allow  a
2”  overhang  of  the  arms  beyond  the  front  legs.  You  can  make  it  more  or  less,  depending  on  how  much  you  want  the
back  to  slant.
Now  set  the  left  and  right  back  boards  on  the  bottom/legs  and  lean  them  against  the  back  support.  Attach  them  to  the
back  support  and  the  rear  seat  board  with  2”  screws.  Now  set  in  the  two  middle  back  boards.  There  will  be  about  1/2”
between  them,  more  or  less,  the  important  thing  is  to  space  them  equally.
Now  cut  and  install  the  arm  braces.  (They  aren’t  absolutely  necessary;;  I’ve  only  recently  started  installing  them.
Lumber:

2x6 you need 6 feet. To make one chair you can’t buy less than 8 foot lengths of 2x6. But if
you make two chairs, buy 1 12 foot board. Unless your vehicle can’t carry a 12 foot
board. Then just buy 2 2x8s. You’ll have wood left over.

2x4 you need 7 feet. To make two chairs, buy 2 2x4x8 or 1 2x4x14 (longer boards are usually
disproportionately more expensive than short ones)

5/4x61 you need 23 feet altogether. For the arms (if you’re making two chairs) you need 1 10 ft
board. For the seat (for two chairs) 1 12 foot board. For the back (for two chairs) 2 12 ft
boards.

Summary (for two chairs)

(1) 2x6x12'
(2) 2x4x8'
(1) 5/4x6x10'
(3) 5/4x6x12'

This is standard deck flooring out here. I hope it’s the same in CT/VT. In reality it is 1"
thick. But just as a 1x6 is really 3/4x5Ω , so 5/4x6 is really 1/5 Ω.
