The value of resistance R is given by n=L-G 15 ‘vere V is the range of conversion and J, is the currerit required for full scale deflection. Focedure 1. Note the value of resistance G of the galvanometer and its figure of merit k and record them in the note-book. 2. Note the number of divisions Non the either side of the zero of the scale of the galvanometer and calculate the crest required to produce full scale deflection using the relation J, = Nk. 3. For conversion of galvanometer into voltmeter of range 0 -V volts, calculate the value of resistance R to be connected in series with it using the relation y -G Ny As an example, if G =200.Q, /, =500HA=5x10™ A andV = 5 volt, then 5 sx10+ ~200= 10000 -200=9800 2 4. Take out the plugs from the resistance box of the Fig. A7(b).1 so as to introduce the resistance R (calculated in step 3)* series with the galvanometer. The galvanometer with this resistance in series is the converted voltmeter of range0-V volt Vercation (For Checking up the Accuracy of the Converted Voltmeter) 5. Set up the circuit as shown in Fig. A7(b) 1 It should be noted that here the rheostat is used as a potential divider. 6. Precautions 1. All the connections should be tight. 2. The rheostat should be connected propery inthe circuit so as to act as a potential divider. 3. The resistance box should be of high range (0-10 kS2)- 4. Suitable high resistance (say, 5000.92) must be taken out of the resistance box before inserting the key K in the circuit otherwise unduly high current is likely to damage the coil of the galvanometer, 5. The standard voltmeter and the converted voltmeter should preferably of the same range. 6. Any zero eror inthe standard voltmeter or galvanometer shouldbe eliminated or taken into account properly. the given galvanometer is properly converted into voltmeter of th
