Manado Flash Floods 2023: Reasons, Number of

Victims, and Damage Data

JAKARTA- flash floods have hit manado, north Sulawesi, since January 27/

2023. The natural disaster caused hundreds of houses to be submerged in water an

d affected thousands of families.

In addition, the manado flash floods also resulted in fatalities. Here’s the info

rmation.
 Manado flash flood point 2023

Regional disaster management agency (BPBD) reported that flooding occur

red at 40 points spread across 25 urban villages. The nine villages were also hit by l

andslides and fallen trees.

“Provisional incident report from the manado BPDB information data center

(floods in 25 sub-district and 9 landslides points),’’ said head of emergency handling

of BPDB Manado Angelina J bajodo, Friday (27/1/2023).

Affected residents have been evacuated. Some residents chose to flee to fa

mily homes that were not affected by the floods.

‘’ the others fled to a safe place, or to their families,’’ he continued.

The following is the number of residents in evacuation after the floods and la

ndslieds in manado.

Tikala district: 209 inhabitants

Paal district 2: 261 inhabitants

Tuminting district: 460 inhabitants

Wanang district: 41 people

Causes of manado flash floods in 2023

 Manado flash floods hit 31 sub-districts in manado city, North Sulawesi.

The flood which was accompanied by landslides was caused by high rainfall s
o that the lake tornado watershed (DAS) overflowed.

5 people died

Based on manado BPBD data until 15.00 WIB, as many as five people died d
ue to floods and lanslides in manado. They were swept away by the current of the riv
er and buried in an avalanche. The following is the data of the five victms.

One resident who was swept away by the currents of the river in pandu neigh
borhood 3 village, bunaken district, was agus manumpil (62).

Damage data based on data from the national disaster mitigation agency (BN
PB) Saturday (28/1/2023), hundreds of flooded houses were spread across 34 villag
es/ kelurahan and 9 sub-districts. Meanwhile the landslides disaster affected 63 famil
ies and spread across 22 villages/kelurahan and 7 sub-districts in manado. The follo
wing is damage data for manado flash floods accompanied by landslides.

400 houses were submerged in the flood, 53 housing units were damaged, on
e place of worship was damaged by the landslides.
