Class 09 - Science
Motion Test 01

Solution

1. i. (a) 8m
Explanation: 8m
ii. (c) Car B is the slowest
Explanation: Car B is the slowest
iii. (d) uniform acceleration
Explanation: uniform acceleration
iv. (d) (I), (II) and (III)
Explanation: (I), (II) and (III)

v. (c)

Explanation:

2. (a) v2 = u2 + 2aS
Explanation: The third equation of motion draws a relation between final velocity, initial velocity, acceleration of the
body, and its displacement.
The third equation of motion is v2 = u2 + 2aS
Here, v = final velocity, u = initial velocity, a = acceleration and S = displacement.
3. (c) falls back in his hand
Explanation: A person sitting in the truck projected a ball vertically upwards. The ball will fall back in his hand as the
ball and the truck are moving at the same speed.
4. (a) 1 : 3
Explanation: Let the radius of circular path be r and 3r respectively.
Let the speed of first and second objects be v1 and v2 respectively.
The length of the first track = 2 r
Time is taken by the first object =
The length of the second track = 2 (3r) = 6 πr
Time is taken by the second object t =

Time taken by both object are the same

5. (d) 4 sec
Explanation: Using kinematic equation, v = u + a t, when ball reaches to top of its trajectory, it's velocity becomes
zero. Ball is thrown against gravity of earth, therefore a = - g, u = 20 m/s, we can find time of ascend as
0 = 20 - 10 t
20 = 10 t
t= = 2 sec
Time of ascend is same as time of descend = 2 sec.
Time of flight = time of ascend + time of descend
Therefore time of flight = 4 sec.
6. (d) (B), (C) and (D)
Explanation:
Uniform Motion means Body covers equal distance in an equal time interval.
A satellite goes around the earth in a circular orbit with constant speed and covers equal distances in equal time
intervals.
The arms of the clock cover the equal distance in every hour.
The moon revolves around the earth and takes equal time for every revolution.
The motion of the car on a busy road is not an example of a uniform motion.
7. (b) Both A and R are true but R is not the correct explanation of A.
Explanation: Uniform velocity means that speed and direction remain unchanged.
8. Graphically the path of an object will be linear i.e. look like a straight line when it is in uniform motion.
9. A body is said to possess uniform acceleration if its velocity increases by equal amount in equal intervals of time. For
example, a car covering 10 m in every second is said to be moving with uniform acceleration.
10. (i) Average velocity =

11. Velocity = or distance = velocity × time
Therefore S =
12. Given total distance travelled = 15 + 75 + 10 = 100 km
Time taken in the first part of motion t1 =
Time taken in the second part of motion t2 =
Time taken in the third part of motion t3 =

13. Given speed of the bus = 60 kmh-1 = = 16.7 ms-1

Time of reaction = s
Time of reaction under the influence of alcohol = s
i) Distance travelled by the bus in the first case distance = Speed × time = 16.7 × = 1.11m
ii) Distance travelled by the bus in the second case distance = Speed × time = 16.7 × = 8.35m

14. By using velocity- distance equation, v2 -u2 =2aS.

For upward motion, acceleration due to gravity, a= -g m/s2.
Let the height attained by object ='h'
Therefore, We have, v2 = u2 - 2gh or h = ............ (1)
But at highest point v = 0
Therefore, equation (1) become;

Now, For first ball,Height attained, h1 = ..............(2)

Similarly, For second ball, Height attained, h2 ............ (3)

Dividing equation, (2) by (3), we get.
; Hence proved.
15. First km/hr is converted into m/s for its formula to be applicable in a standard form.

We know that,
i. v = 25 m/s and time is given as 1 min, t = 60 sec
Displacement = Velocity Time
= 25 60
Displacement = 1500 m = 1.5 km
Thus the distance traveled by Soham in his car in one min is 1500 m or 1.5 km.
ii. b) v = 25 m/s and the time is given 1 sec, t = 1 sec
Displacement = Velocity Time
= 25 1
Displacement = 25 m = 0.025 km
Thus the distance traveled by Soham in his car in one sec is 25 m or 0.025 km.
