7. General information under consideration

of regulations

Fixed ladders must be securely attached to the

building. The foundation must be sufficiently stable.
Proof of this and of correct assembly must be pro-
vided separately for each building project and must
be checked and approved by an expert for structural
stability. The anchor bolt extraction forces can be
seen in Tables 3 and 4. The statics calculations for
the individual components are available on request.

We recommend involving the

responsible authorities at the
earliest possible stage when
planning fixed ladders.

7.2 Labelling
All fixed ladders must be marked with a label as shown in Fig. 2a.
In addition an identification plate (Fig. 2) must be attached and legibly filled out on every access level of fixed
ladders with fall protection that can be reached without this fall protection system. The plate must be labelled
in the national language. Identification plates may be applied as adhesive film or can be screwed on.

8. Assembly

8.1 General information

Start from the top when dividing the ladder, so that the top rung is level with the exit level. Assembly of the
ladder can start from the bottom, but should be conducted from the exit level to avoid subsequent differences
in level. The shorter, retracted end of the stile should be at the bottom (Fig. 10). (Fig. 11) should be followed
where there are staggered sections of ladder or where platforms are mounted. The various long standard lad-
der parts can be assembled in any order. Basic ladder parts have the following standard sizes: 7, 10, 13 (see Fig.
10 for working lengths). The step from the upper edge of the lowest rung to the floor is 100-400 mm.). Inter-
sections should generally be coated with zinc thick film coating Type 0052.90.10. It is important to ensureman

English
even rung spacing of 280 mm at the transition point from one ladder section to another (Fig. 10). We recom-
mend inserting two spacers between the last and first rung when combining the individual ladders so that
rungs are 280 mm apart.
The ladder parts are only plugged in and not screwed together (Detail A). This guarantees the precise rung spac-
ing and the required air gap between the separate ladder elements. The purpose of this air gap is to compen-
sate for length when the material expands due to temperature fluctuations.

8.2 Transition pieces
Transition pieces with stiles Ø 34 mm and transition pieces Ø 48 mm made of aluminium
The transition pieces are available in the sizes 4,5,6 and 7 and are constructed in the same grid dimension as the
standard ladder elements (Fig. 10). The assembly of the transition pieces ensures the required 500-700 mm clear
exit opening (Fig. 12). According to the standard, the last rung must be at the same height as the edge of the
building. When using top accessories, the first wall brackets may be mounted up to max. 185 mm below the
edge of the building (Fig. 12). 560 mm below the top wall bracket, a second wall bracket must be placed.
Transition pieces with stiles Ø 48 made of steel and stainless steel
The transition pieces are available in the sizes 4,5,6,7,10 and 13 and are constructed in the same grid dimension
as standard ladder elements (Fig. 10). The assembly of the transition pieces ensures the required 500-700 mm
clear exit opening (Fig. 12). According to the standard, the last rung must be at the same height as the edge of
the building. Transition pieces must be fixed with at least one pair of wall brackets.
In the case of transition pieces sizes 4, 5 and 6, a wall bracket must be mounted under the topmost rung of the
second ladder section from above (Fig.14). This distance can also be less than 1960 mm. Transition pieces size 7,
10 and 13 must be fixed with the standard mounting distance of 1960 mm. If long drawn-in tie-bars are used
(type 1452 00), the distance between the first wall brackets and the edge oft he building may be up to max.
472.5 mm (Fig. 13). When using all other accessories at the top, the first wall brackets may be mounted up to
max. 185 mm below the edge of the building (Fig. 12).

8.7 Rear protection in general

Mount the rear safety guards at a maximum dis-
tance of 1.5 m. The uppermost rear safety guard
must be mounted so that the opening points to-
wards the platform or the edge of the structure and
thus there is no danger of falling (e.g. Fig. 38+39).
When using ladder hooks, the rear guard must be
extended to a height of ≥ 1000 mm above the exit
level (Fig. 6). The vertical rear safety tubes must be

≥2,20 m≤ 2,30 m
attached inside the rear safety guards at the pre-
punched points using the bracket bolts and M 8
nuts. The nuts should always be on the outside due
to the risk of injury. The rear safety tubes are deliv-
ered in partial lengths under certain circumstances
and have to be mounted using the enclosed connec-
tors.
The connecting joints shall be arranged at different
heights, i.e. between different rear safety guards.
They must not lie between the two lowest and the
two highest rear safety guards. Abb. 38: Safety cage with a transfer platform acc. to
For safety reasons the rear safety tubes must be DIN 14122
flush with the top and bottom rear safety guads
and must be shortened if necessary. The upper open
tube ends must be closed with plastic caps. The
lower ones should be open to avoid water accumu-
lation in the pipe.
All interfaces have to be painted against corrosion
with zinc thick-film paint type 0052.90.10.
Important: Regardless of the length of the rear pro-
tection at least 3 full rear safety guards have to be
mounted.

8.7.1 Bottom access rear safety cage

Start of ladder bottom (Fig. 40)
Fixed ladders must have a rear safety cage from a fall height of 3 m. At the start of the ladder at the bottom there
must be a headroom of 2.2 - 3 m according to all standards.
Bottom closure at the side (Fig. 41)
At the start with side access of a ladder, the railing must be continued. For this purpose, 2 x 3/4 rear safet guards
must be mounted at the height of the knee rail (Fig.41/Pos. 4) and of the handrail (Fig.41/Pos. 5). The first complete
rear safety guard (Fig.41/ pos. 8) must be mounted with sufficient headroom at min. 2.2 - max. 2.3 m above the
stand grate (Fig.41/ pos. 1).
Transfer platform (Fig. 38/39))
The lower rear safety cage must be stabilised at the height of the transfer platform with a complete rear safety
guard (Fig.38+39/Pos.7). The last rear safety guard is a 3/4 and must be at least 1.6 m (ISO 14122 = 2 m) above the
transfer platform (Fig.38/Pos. 5). Between them a further 3/4 back rear safety guard will be mediated. At the height
of the two 3/4 rear safety guard (Fig. 38/Pos. 4+5), another two 3/4 rear safet guards have to be mounted to the
next ladder section and be connected with the connecting strap (Fig. 38/ pos. 2).
The first complete rear safety guard in the following ladder (Fig.38/ pos. 8) must be mounted with sufficient head-
room at min. 2.2 - max. 2.3 m above the transfer platform (Fig. 38/Pos. 1) The upper edge of the last rung of the
incoming ladder may end only 1.68 m (6 rungs), according to ISO 14122 1.96 m (7 rungs), above the transfer plat-
form.
Rear safety cage with side exit or transfer
For side exits and when changing in the ladder section, a rear safety tube must be installed in the area of the
exit/changeover. For the side exit, a stand grate type 0529.20.11 is used and for changing to another ladder section
a transfer platform type 0529.20.03 is required. In case of a lateral exit, fuses must be installed, so that the gap be-
tween the rear safety guard and the railing is closed e.g. telescopic connector (Fig. 41 / Pos. 2). These brackets must
be adjusted and drilled for installation. At the exit points to the next right or left platform or ladder section, the
inner rear safety connecting tubes musted be left out up to the lower edge of the rear safety guard arranged at
min. 2.2 m - max. 2.3 m above the platform (fig. 38+39 / pos. 8). The rear safety guard connecting tubes are at-
tached directly to the stand grate using a U-bolt (Fig. 43 / pos. 10) and nuts. In the case of multiple ladder systems,
the rear guards are to be connected to each other at the transfer point (Fig. 38+39 / Pos. 2). To do this, the 3/4 rear
safety guard of the individual ladder sections are connected with a connecting strap and M8 screw connections.
