1. Four brands of flashlight batteries are to be compared by testing each brand in five flashlights.
Twenty flashlights are randomly selected and divided randomly into four groups of five
flashlights each. Then each group of flashlights uses a different brand of battery. The lifetimes
of the batteries, to the nearest hour, are as follows.

At the 5% significance level, is there a significant difference on the lifetime among the 4 brands
of batteries?
Steps to do:
i. Null and Alternative Hypothesis (both in symbols and statement form)
Ho: There isn’t a significant difference on the lifetime among the 4 brands of batteries.
(µA= µB= µC= µD)

Ha: There is a significant difference on the lifetime among the 4 brands of batteries.
(µA ≠ µB≠ µC≠ µD)

ii. Level of Significance; test statistics

a= 0.05
Test statistics: f-test anova
N=20

iii. Decision Rule

If p<a, reject Ho, otherwise fail to reject Ho

iv. Computation: Paste here the ANOVA TABLE FROM THE SPSS OUTPUT
v. Decision AND Conclusion:
Decision: Fail to reject ho
Conclusion: There isn’t a significant difference on the lifetime among the 4 brands of
batteries.

2. 2. A local marketing manager of a local fast-food chain recorded the sales in weekdays of 5 branches
located in the same city. The data is presented table 1.

Can the marketing manager conclude that average sales of the 5 branches during weekdays are the
same? Use 5% level of significance.

Steps to do:
i. Null and Alternative Hypothesis (both in symbols and statement form)
Ho: The average sales of the 5 branches during weekdays are the same.
(µA= µB= µC= µD= µE)

Ha: The average sales of the 5 branches during weekdays are NOT the same.
(µA ≠ µB≠ µC≠ µD≠ µE)

ii. Level of Significance; test statistics

Level of Significance= 0.05
Test statistics: f-test anova
N=25

iii. Decision Rule

If p<a, reject Ho, otherwise fail to reject Ho

iv. Computation: Paste here the ANOVA TABLE FROM THE SPSS OUTPUT.

v. Decision AND Conclusion:

Decision: Fail to reject ho
Conclusion: The average sales of the 5 branches during weekdays are the same.
