ASSIGNMENT NO1 OF GENERAL PHYSICS /2019-2020

1) A system consists of the following masses in the XY-plane: m1=4.0 kg at coordinates

(x = 0, y = 5.0 m); m2=7.0 kg at (3.0 m, 8.0 m); and m3=5.0 kg at (-3.0 m, -6.0 m). Find
the coordinates of its center of mass, that is xcm , ycm , and zcm .

2) The masses mA and mB of the following figure are respectively 10 kg and 5 kg.

Given that the coefficient of kinetic friction between the body of mass mA and the table is
0.2; determine:
1° the minimum value of masse mC that can prevent the body of mass mA to slide
2° the linear acceleration of the system, if the body of mass mC is removed and if the
Pulley is of negligible mass.

3) In the following figure, the pulley is assimilated to a ring of radius of 10 cm and mass
M= 100 g. Determine:

1. The linear acceleration of masses m1 = 200 g and m2 = 250 g, and the values of the
tension forces along each string, if the frictional forces between masses and the
inclined planes are negligible; 1 = 30° and 2 = 60°.
2. The reaction force between the inclined surface and m1
3. The common linear velocity v of m1 and m2; and the angular velocity  of the pulley
after 5 seconds of motion.
