‭SETUP, PERFORMANCE, and AESTHETIC CONSIDERATIONS‬

‭Before the Performance‬

‭●‬ P
‭ repare and ensure the setup of your recording equipment, such as a smartphone,‬
‭iPad/Tablet, DSLR Camera, external microphones, etc.‬

‭Camera Setup Guidelines:‬

‭●‬ ‭Resolution‬‭: Recommended at 1920x1080.‬
‭●‬ ‭Orientation‬‭: Ensure a landscape orientation.‬
‭●‬ ‭Camera Level‬‭: Maintain the camera at eye level.‬
‭●‬ ‭Camera Shot‬‭: Opt for a medium, medium full, or‬
‭full shot. Refer to the visual guide on the last page for details.‬
‭●‬ ‭Teacher Guidance‬‭: Teachers will assist students in‬‭finding the best camera angle‬
‭for their performance.‬

‭Framing and Focus:‬

‭●‬ ‭Framing‬‭: Avoid overly tight framing; ensure your face‬‭and body stay within the‬
‭frame even during movements, as body expressions are important.‬
‭●‬ ‭Focus‬‭: Ensure correct focus. Auto focus generally‬‭works well, but some devices‬
‭may intermittently refocus during recording.‬

‭Additional Tips for Smartphones and Tablets:‬

‭●‬ ‭Airplane Mode‬‭: When using a smartphone or tablet,‬‭activate airplane mode to‬
‭prevent disturbances or interruptions.‬
‭●‬ ‭Camera Selection‬‭: Utilize the rear-camera for better‬‭video quality.‬

‭Stability and Clear View:‬

‭●‬ ‭Tripod‬‭: It's advisable to use a tripod for camera‬‭stability.‬
‭●‬ ‭Clear View‬‭: Remove any objects that obstruct the camera's‬‭view to ensure a‬
‭clear recording.‬

‭Audio Setup:‬
‭●‬ ‭Mobile Devices‬‭: You can use mobile‬
‭phones/tablets as long as there's no‬
‭sound distortion.‬
‭●‬ ‭External Equipment‬‭: If you opt for‬
‭an external microphone, mixer, or‬
‭audio interface, ensure that audio‬
‭signals are healthy – not too loud to‬
‭cause distortion, and not too soft to‬
‭be inaudible. Avoid using any audio effects that may filter the output.‬
‭Visual Setup:‬
‭●‬ ‭Choosing a Location‬‭: Find an interesting spot in your‬‭house with good lighting.‬
‭Ensure that the lighting is not underexposed (too dark) or overexposed (too‬
‭bright).‬
‭●‬ ‭Background‬‭: You may use a plain background wall or‬‭curtains in shades of white,‬
‭gray, cream, or dirty white. Adding plants to your background can enhance the‬
‭visual appeal.‬
‭●‬ ‭Attire‬‭: Performers are encouraged to wear formal or‬‭semi-formal attire, or‬
‭something related to their piece, depending on the performance's theme or‬
‭context.‬
‭●‬ ‭Appearance‬‭: Apply light makeup if necessary and ensure‬‭a proper, neat hairstyle‬
‭or haircut for a polished appearance during your performance.‬

‭During and After the Performance‬

‭●‬ E ‭ ngage from Start to Finish‬‭: Begin projecting your‬‭presence from the introduction and‬
‭maintain it until the conclusion, even if you're not actively singing or playing.‬
‭●‬ ‭Eye Contact‬‭: Whenever feasible, maintain direct eye‬‭contact with the camera lens,‬
‭establishing a connection with your audience throughout your performance. While‬
‭reading the score, it's acceptable to briefly shift your focus, but always bear in mind that,‬
‭as artists, we strive to captivate with our showmanship.‬
‭●‬ ‭Minimize Unnecessary Movements‬‭: During your performance,‬‭aim to minimize‬
‭unnecessary movements that may distract from your artistry.‬
‭●‬ ‭Graceful Closure‬‭: After the final note of your piece,‬‭pause for 3-5 seconds. As your‬
‭performance concludes, convey satisfaction with a smile directed at the camera, and‬
‭then graciously bow for another 3-5 seconds.‬

‭“Best wishes for your performance, and congratulations in advance! We appreciate your‬
‭participation in MTNA Philippines' virtual event.”‬

‭With gratitude for your participation,‬
