Sense verbs

Sense verbs refer to a group of verbs that are used


to describe sensory experiences or perceptions.
These verbs help us to convey how we perceive
the world around us and how we process sensory
information.
SOME COMMON SENSE VERBS INCLUDE:

1. See - to perceive something with your eyes.


2. Hear - to perceive something with your ears.
3. Smell - to perceive a scent or odor.
4. Taste - to perceive a flavor.
5. Touch - to perceive something with your sense of touch.
6. Feel - to experience a physical or emotional sensation.
SUBJECT + SENSE VERB + OBJECT + VERB/ V-ING/ P.P.
1. See - I see the mountains disappear in the distance.
2. Hear - Can you hear the birds singing outside?
3. Look - She looks thrilled to be back home.
4. Smell - I can smell the freshly baked bread.

We don't use an infinitive after the object.


I heard the phone to ring twice.

1. Touch - The water feels cold to the touch.


2. Taste - This soup tasted spicy and I HAD another order.
3. Maria's house looks like her mom's house.
4. Look - She looks beautiful in that dress.

Reflexive
Pronouns
Reflexive pronouns are words
that are used when the subject of
a sentence and the object of a
sentence are the same.
Here are some examples of reflexive pronouns used in
sentences:
I hurt myself when I fell off the bike.
You should be proud of yourself for finishing the
project.
He blames himself for the mistake.
She talks to herself when she's nervous.
The cat groomed itself for hours.
We congratulated ourselves on a job well done.
You two should introduce yourselves to the new
neighbors.
They gave themselves a break after working all day.
Reflexive pronouns can also be used for emphasis, as
in:
I myself am not sure what to do.
You yourself said you would help.
He himself doesn't believe it.
She herself baked the cake.
We ourselves witnessed the accident.
They themselves chose to leave.
