Peach blossoms: kinds, characteristics, meaning

Greeting: As the Tet approaches, Vietnamese people go crazy to prepare for this special
occasion. So do you know which flower is the symbol of Tet in the North of Viet Nam?
It’s peach blossoms.(hoa đào)

Normally, there are two kinds of peach blossom trees or this flower comes in two colors:
red (Dao Bich) and pink ( Dao Phai), in which the former is more popular.

It is a deciduous, small tree, growing to 5–10 m tall. Its flowers with 5 petals often
bloom in early spring. Now I’m holding two kinds of peach blossoms. Can you see their
pistils? They’re so small, long with yellow. This flower may be simple but when the tree
is in full blossom, its bright color provokes(khơi gợi) such a bustling(nhộn nhịp) and
exciting feeling.

The peach blossom is the symbol of wealth, happiness, and harmony, so everyone tries
to prepare this flower in their houses. There are also two ways to display the flower,
putting a whole tree in a pot or just taking a big branch and arranging in a vast.

As you can see, the peach blossoms in our city are still tiny and have many buds, but the
atmosphere of Tet has filled(d) the space, hasn’t it?

In along with Chung Cake or Lucky Money, Hoa Dao is more than a decoration stuff, its
vivid(sinh động) beauty and profound meaning is a big part in Vietnamese life whenever
Tet comes.
